Heard acouple people talk about modding/tuning n52s to squeez 300hp

Is this true? I know Intake/Exhaust adds 5-10hp at best. I've also read about getting more HP out of the n52 with a tune, but haven't found anything concrete. If there is a tune to squeez some more HP out of the n52 does it decrease reliability much? I'm not looking for much more power out of my 128i. It's my daily driver, but I like to on occassion do some AutoX/Track outings. So I'd like to to get a little more power and perk up the powerband even more. Also get the performance suspension, but nothing extreme. Any info cause reading thru this forum seems to have alot of hearsay and inconclusive banter. Oh and please don't post "If you want more power go trade in your car for a 135i" typical response. I drove both the 135i and 128i before I made my purchase and honestly I liked the way the 128i handeld better and is a smoother daily driver.

I just did my first autox in my 128 and here's what I have: BMW Performance intake & strut brace. The only thing I really needed on the track was Non Run Flats. New tires will be my next and probably final mod for autox. The 128 is a VERY capable track car and you don't have to worry about your fuel pump crappin' out... yeah I said it!

Find someone to develop cams/valve springs, get head work/balancing to support m3 levels of rpm (8000 should be enough), shave your head to up compression (make sure to not go too much if you are gonna run 93 pump gas), find good headers/exhaust, get a light-weight dampened crank pully, carbon-fiber driveshaft, lightweight flywheel and of course a good intake and tune. You would probably make 300 to the wheels.

+1

I think it honestly depends on how much money you want to put into it and how much hp you want to ultimately produce. If you put in enough to the point where its the same difference between the price of a 128 and 135, i would have gone with the 135 in the first place. Yes, i know you said not to say that but I'm just trying to justify your spending here.

But if its not too expensive and you're reason is to only increase handling...then thats a different story.

It would be expensive but it would be one hell of an NA engine, I love high-revving I6s, my buddy has the 4-cylinder m3 chassis (not sure what the code is, I'm new to BMWs) stripped out with I believe a 2004 m3 engine (the 3.0 liter one) and drivetrain with all the bolt-ons. The throttle response is ridiculous and it feels/sounds like a proper race car!

Well... providing you get your car started in the first place

C'mon, I'm tired of the "turbo" heads thinking the 135 is the only 1 series worth racing. Truth is, the fastest cars on the course were all NA. They were older E30 & E36 M3's and 325is.

^^^ Totally agree.. I was just messing around! Ugh I hate the HPFP issues I envy the 128 for not having that problem ...The 128 is definitely an awesome as a built up track car so I can see why anyone would want to improve it a bit for those purposes...

I have never auto x... only drag strip but hopefully can do that one day soon...

Hey us 1'ers gotta stick together no matter what numbers come after the 1 right?!

^ Nice to see a 240 with an sr20det that's not riced to hell. Clean car

Back on topic: I'm not trying to sound like a jackass, but it seems financially stupid to go FI on the 128i. you'll be throwing more weight in the front with a turbo setup, so it will handle like a 135i with more lag, no warranty, and more than likely more cost.

What do you use for engine managment? I'm going to purchase the Full-Race twinscroll mani and GT3071r and I want to use a MAP setup but it seems nobody has info. I am currently using APEXI power FC, and APEXI discontinued the MAP version, I believe it was dJetro or something.

As far as the 128, I would start by doing headers/exhaust, lightweight dampened pully and tune. Then take weight off of drivetrain, wheels, driveshaft, flywheel. Not sure how good the intakes are. Do these mods and post a dyno to share with fellow 128'ers.
