I hurt myself this evening...
I actually RAN MYSELF OVER with my new toy.....
It's supposedly does over 60mph and it's fecking fast...it'll flip itself over on the spot it's so fast - and it's ELECTRIC It's got one of those brushless motors with a 2 massive batteries! I got all confused when I was driving it at myself and forgot to turn / brake/ jump out of the way. My foot is throbbing! |

Lol
Seriously these things can hurt. A couple of kg travelling at 60mph could have broken your ankle. Have a look at maxbashing.com I used to race the 1/10 buggies when I was a kid. Great fun and ultra competitive. I now have a Hobao Hyper St http://www.hobao-racing.com/products...hyperSTpro.php Have just bought a new engine and tuned pipe for it. 5cc producing 3 hp @ 28,000 rpm! it's gonna fly. Just need to run it in. |

Palm - that looks great fun!
I got a brushless 4x4 buggy a while back - had a few teething problems to sort but it's now going well. Took it to the park for a good blast (have only used it in my garden so far - it's big but bumpy) and reckon it does 50mph with 11.1v lipos. It's so fast it's scary! Had to get a new motor (snapped the axle), new ESC (fried the first), got new spur and pinion gears custom made in steel (it ate 6 of the standard ones) and a few other mods. Feel a bit of a weirdo being 34 and having one but I can use our little one (1 year old) as "cover!" |

Any excuses!
We are just big kids at heart. Boys and their toys. The mrs just don’t understand. My 2 girls (aged 8 & 5) love the truggy too! |

Looks like a whole lot of fun!
Last time I 'drove' an RC model I snapped the chassis of the goddamn thing! Never again.

You should try a modern truggy, buggy or monster truck.
I jumped mine well over 6ft high and it's landed very heavy or even on its roof and haven't broken anything yet! Check this out. |

Skid - proper RC car abuse!!
Done some big (but not THAT big) jumps in mine with no problems. Nitro was ruled out - too noisy! Good brushless set ups are very quick though. |

These things look great. How much roughly would you say it costs to get started with one of these beasts (I can just see my wife's face now!!!)???

Not sure about the trucks. Mine was about £300 all in - lipo batteries (very powerful), radio gear, custom made spur and pinon gears, better shock oil, etc, etc.

Firstly electric or nitro?
Buggies, truggie or monster truck? Nitro RTR truggies start at about £300 for something decent. This includes engine and radio. Just add fuel and batteries and away you go. You can get cheaper but you will end up breaking it. Electric RTR truggies are about half that. If you have no radio or anything else then a RTR (ready to run) car is the way to go to get you started. Nitro sounds awesome but can be a bit restricted as to where they can be run due to the noise. Plus can be a pain to get set up and running properly. Where as with electric you could run it up and down your road outside your house. If you are planning on going racing then an rtr car won’t really cut it in competition. You will end up replacing a lot of the parts which if you bought a competition based kit they would have came as standard. You would also need to buy a radio, batteries and motor etc so it could end up costing around £500 plus. |

Nitro
I have this http://www.hobao-racing.com/products...10/hyper10.php With a few different BodyShells, self painted etc. I used to race it at Snetterton Track (Model track), and have loads of tools, extras and spares however its been in the garage for a while now. It is a pain to set up, and keep running, but with practice you get the hang of it. Crashing it - is kinda expensive too. Very good fun though, especially if you race them now and then. |

Careful Andy, at least you didn't run yourself over with the C63 !
Brush-less motors are soooooooooo much better than the older brushed ones... I've got a Nitro Heli, but friends also have brush-less electric ones and they have some serious torque. Only thing to be careful with is the LiPo batteries, you need a very good balance charger to keep them from frying and don't let them run right down or they are knackered. My Raptor 50 Titan But this is quite easy to do with heli's: If you want a serious motor... check out a mates gas turbine heli: |

biscuits - bit too advanced for me - I'd crash it!
I absolutely bricked myself the first time I charge my lipos but I'm very careful, have a decent charger and check the voltages of each cell constantly. Plus I have a lipo sack when charging (and charge it in a heavy terracotta pot!). Seen a few vids though - when they go, they REALLY do go! Nice and light and the 11.1v 3S in mine makes it go bonkers! Got a 7.4v 2S for less loony driving. |

Paul.....now we're talking!!
A brushless Heli is my next 'want' but yes, it does look like there is more risk of damage. Knowing my luck, it'll drop out of the sky onto the C63 However, I'm under pressure from the missus to buy a new lawnmower and my lawnmower fund has just been decimated by my monster truck. I seem to have paid much more for it than other prices indicated on this thread...the truck itself was just over £500 and then I had to add another £200's worth of batteries and charger! I did sell my Nitro powered car to pay for half of this and the electric one is MUCH quicker and more 'plug and play'. |

Hmm.... you're after a lawnmower... how much do you want to spend? I have one that I might sell if I got a sensible offer. Honda HRX 537 VY, rrp is £1000, I got it for £850 last year. Probably used it a dozen times, always used VPower... lol.
HRX537VY Heli flying has to be THE most difficult thing I have ever tried.... friends always say "oh, Paul will just be able to do that" about most things, (trying to be modest!) and I did a bit of buggy racing when I was 18, but flying a heli is just FECKIN difficult and you need to devote a lot of time towards it, which I don't generally have. Main problem is you don't get any feedback as you're not IN it, so everything relies on you seeing what's going on and translating it into the correct stick movements... it's just bloody hard and anyone who says it's not is lying or a c0ck... or both ! |

Biscuits - I've used a proper heli simulator and from too many hours spent playing PC heli sims, I knew all about collective, pitch, blah blah which helped but then I was IN it - no idea how I'd manage a remote one! I even cock up my steering on the car once in a while!
Palmball - yours is quite a beast though. Mine's just a fairly cheap buggy but with some choice customization to make it work better. For mowers - I looked at the usual Honda ones and the price for what I needed scared me (£1000++) - got a big garden but it's too hilly for a ride on so it had to be the biggest non ride on - 21" blade jobby. Ended up with a Husqvarna R53SV - under £300, Honda engine and has survived two years of the worst mower abuse ever (I had to clear a lot of brambles, plant grass seed, then mow when I could) and is still going strong. They have them here: http://www.abbeygardensales.co.uk/su...s-0001716.aspx I got mine when they had just come out so paid £280... |
