Unhappy Some nasty splash marks

For a while now, I have noticed a nasty spray pattern that goes across my whole hood, from the right front towards the left back of the hood. There is some additional marks on the very back of the trunk top. Nothing on the roof, fortunately.

To my novice eye, it looks like something splashed across my car, eventually corroding/seeping into the clear coat. Now, even after cleaning and a few passes of a very light polish (along with my PC) the marks are still visible. I guess I am going to have to take a more aggressive approach.

Note that the marks can not be felt by running fingers across the surface.

Any idea what may have caused this and how to get rid of it? It is really just frustrating the piss out of me.

first try a heavier compound.. something like PB SSR3. remember this should be followed by a lighter polish. if that doesnt work you may need to wet sand it.

Try a little vinegar/water mixture, to make sure it's not water spots.

Looks like water spots from rain to me. Diluted vinegar may remove them. Or a paint cleaner. If they have etched, a pass or two of SIP on an orange pad should take care of them. Follow with your light polish.

Because this didn't come out with the light polish and white pad, you may be concerned. But no worries. It's completely normal to have to use a more aggressive polish from time to time.

Thanks guys, I shall take your advice and try the vinegar approach, and later the SIP if I need to.
