Question for all Sparkling Graphite owners
I was pretty set on getting titanium silver on my 335i, but after driving a silver car for a while now, i've gotten pretty bored with it. I turned to sparkling graphite, and for the first time I started noticing on the road, and how many of them there were. What i've found unsettling, is that they can often seem purple, very purple. In my lot, there are two E46 coupes in SG that in a certain light look more purple than gray, but after looking at a lot of pictures of SG on the E92 and the E90, the purplish hue seems to show up more irregularly.
Note this picture So, do you guys with current gen 3s find the purple to be something you see often? I just have a feeling it would really, really bother me to see my car in the light as the E46 shown above. I really dont like the color purple

I wasnt aware the e46 was available with SG. But to answer your question, I had the same concern as you did about the purple hue. And although it is visible,it becomes MUCH less apparent and almost non existent under a bright blue sky. It really doesnt bother me as much as it did when I ordered the car. And I do get alot of comments on the color. People seem to love it!
Good Luck.

I never see purple. If the blue sky is reflecting off of it it may appear purple

The purple hue only shows up in direct sunlight. It's more of a charcoal color on cloudy days or early/late in the day when the sun is still low in the sky.
And it's NEVER as purple as that E46 in the picture is!

There is definitely a purplish tint in the gray. It is why I decided against it.

Well only sometimes in the sun but not often, I know what you mean though. It really doesn’t bother me that much. The color changes with different shades of light depending on the time of the day. Personally on the road it looks really nice, the color defiantly turns heads!!

I have Silver as well. I still love it but want something different for the 335i coupe. I am almost 100% sold on Graphite. My dealer has one with Saddle and it is sharp. I saw a little purple to it on a sunny day but it wasn't that bad. I liked how it seemed to change color a little bit. I saw it on a cloudy day too and I didn't notice any purple.

I don't think Sparkling Graphite was available on the E46 (could very well be wrong though). This seems to have a pretty complete listing of all e46 colors; Sparkling Graphite's not on the list.
Go with SG... the E90/E92 looks great in that color; I'm constantly getting compliments on it as well.

SG
When I test drove the 335i last week, I was surprised also to find out that they did have the E46 in Graphite...although it doesn't look the same as on the E90 (maybe it was because it was in the shade?)
I too am tired of silver, saw the space grey and decided that Sparkling Graphite is the color for me..have yet to see one in real life on a Coupe, however..but I think it looks fantastic on the E90 |

It matters where the car is, whats reflecting on the car, and how the sun is. Sometimes the car can appear to have a purple hue, which isn't so bad, it does look nice, it makes the color more mysterious, I guess. I was complimented on my color, finally for the first time lol. Everyone told me to go black and my friend who just bought a black E90 told me that my color is really nice. Also with the the rims posted above, the titanium asphault as the same purple hue, it sort of adds to it as well (from what I think). SG is a great color, I don't see a lot of them on the streets, so it makes my car stand out somewhat.

The first time I noticed the purplish hue was when I first took pictures with a small Sony digital cam a day or two after receiving the car.
I have no misgivings about getting SG though. The color choice palette is fairly conservative, and I wanted something different. At the time, SG was a new color and the most "different" IMO. |
