E90 brakes @ 10k miles? premature wear?
I currently have 10,500 miles on my E90 330i ZSP.
My brake just started to make that squeaking noise. I know its the brake.. It sounds just like when the brakes were worn out on my previous cars. Isn't this a bit early? I remember my previous car's brake worn out @ 12k miles and the dealership replaced it under warranty for premature wear problem. Im pretty sure BMW will replace it for me if they find it worn out already.. but what the hell? I don't even drive THAT hard... I don't even track/autocross my car...

Sean, I must be more gentle on the brakes than you, I'm at 13K and my brakes still have lots of life left!

how do you know that the brakes are worn out? i thought the squeaking noise has to do with oil as well, just did an oil change yesterday and there's no more squeaking noise like last time
danny any thoughts?

I've never heard any squeaking noises related to the oil. Sometimes, a low oil level or very dirty oil can cause noisey valve movement, but that sound is more the valve's "tapping" then squeaking.
It' pretty easy to tell if your down to the warning indicaters built-in to the brake pads, they either squeak when applying the brakes or if they are worn down enough, squeak when rolling. Danny Quote:

maybe if the OP had properly maintained his brakes and changes his brake oil more often they wouldn't be worn out now |

I jad a 93' 325is and the brakes always squeaked a little bit after like 5,000 miles. Granted that i drive my car harder than the roads allowed. Ask the mech if he puts on the anti-squeak paste when they put the pads in. Worst case you take your rim off and see how your pad looks. Is it just squeaking say in the morning or after the rain, if so it's rust. Best way to get rust off go down a street with very little traffic make sure no one is behind you or cops. Gun to 60 and apply just short of the abs. the drive a little more and apply half as much force. Oh also make sure your rotors don't have grooves from the pad. you can feel them on the face of the rotor if so your not getting even pad wear nor all of the pad. Which is dangerous duh! but just get out and check it out. You might even think of upgrading your pads to PAGID metal masters!! semi-metallic, they were on my 3er and i stopped whether i was ready to or my tires were.

Im lost about this whole brake thing you guys discussed about.
What kind of POS brake system requires brake fluid change every 10,000 miles or less? All the previous japanese cars I've owned were brake problem free.

some people just love to ride those brakes, bad, bad people
If you step on it at the light, then step on the brake -- there is your answer If you brake when cruising uphill -- there is your answer If you brake every time idiot in front of you brakes -- there is your answer If you just keep tapping on the brakes for no reason -- your answer If you shift into the neutral and wear the brakes instead of braking with the engine -- blah, blah, blah... If you're under 20 -- there is your answer |

Anyhow, you can put platinum brakes in it and if you drive like a teenager, they will wear out in 10k miles. I've had Civic, and Accord, and VW, and many others and never had work on brakes done before 35k miles, so... I am at 10k with my e90, and they look like the day I picked up the car... So... |

Try going out and bedding in your pads. It often helps with squeeking. I have 6k miles on my car so far with about 5 days at the track and my brakes are still fine, no squeeking or shuddering. I bedded them in at between 2k and 3k miles though. I didn't bother bedding them in while I was on ED or I would have done it after about 500 or so miles.
http://www.zeckhausen.com/bedding_in_brakes.htm I dunno how many times I've posted this link on the forums, but it's got some great info on how and why you bed in brakes.
