E92 or E91...

I know ive not long bought my E92 which has recently been vinyl wrapped as i really wanted a white car but at the time couldnt find the spec or engine i wanted...

Well ive just been offered a cracking deal on a June 09 E91 MSport in white which is fully loaded, my biggest fear is that the residuals on the E91 arent as good as the E92 and that in 12 months time im going to be in a worse position equity wise in the E91 than i would of been in the E92... Oh and the car doesnt have the 19" rims either...

Do you need the extra room? If not I'd keep the E92.

I was at my dealers today - there was a white E92 335d with massive (must have been 20") black alloys and silly low profile tyres (possibly 30s!!) and it looked utterly stunning.

As for residuals - I gave up on buying cars for their resale value years ago. I've had cars that are meant to hold their value and ones that don't - you lose big time on anything unless it's a collectors item or a very desirable brand new model.

The 19" rear tyres are 30 profile too. Yes they look stunning. Yes they are silly.

Abbyss - do you struggle with the kids and a coupe? I remember my dad convincing mum that a 928 was a "family car!" - then it was three uR Quattros. They were all nice but tight as hell in the back for me and my sister. My sister also used to get carsick - think it's because they were too dark and stuffy in the back. She threw up in the Treser Quattro when dad had just bought it - not popular!

Dog, baby, surfboards, bikes, tonnes of clobber (e.g. buggy) - E91 definitely needed. In fact sometimes even that's tight. Try and put as much as possible on the roof (boards and bikes) but it's amazing how much space you need.

But the last car was an estate and we got that pre dog and baby - I just like them be they an Astra Estate or an M5 Touring.

Xenon - they might have been 19s but they did look huge. Flipping lovely though - I used to hate white cars but some carry it off perfectly nowadays.

But surely at least one of the Quattros was white? Wasn't the Treser only in Alpine White or Tornado red?

Ooops - off topic. Again....

Xenon - it was a very very 80s two tone silver and metallic dark blue!!! It was one of not many that were still coupes (not folding hard top) but fully converted. Fast Lane mag had it as a poster car for ages and reviewed it too - and loved it! It looks a bit daft nowadays but it was quite a machine at the time.

I think its just brand new cars that look ace in white. Cuz there new and fresh. Not cool when you see like an 8-9 year old zimmer or merc in white, looks gash.

How new is new?! Annoying if you buy a white car and have to sell it after a few months!

White is the new Silver......every one and their dog are buying white cars at present. It is sooo 2008 !!

To be honest I nearly ordered my 56 plate M Sport touring in white in 2006 and bottled it. I would have bought my current car in white last Summer but I couldn't have an Edition model in this colour. Today I would not buy a white car.

Wrapping your current car in white is a cracking plan which means you can scratch that 'white' itch and still return the car back if and when required.

Personally I prefer the space and adaptability of a touring, but then I have a family and carry kit for work and bikes and toys for personal use as well. Even have a roof box on currently for the extra luggage space needed !!

On a side note I got fed up with my wife's all silver Smart car recently. Last week we resprayed the panels a grey/bronze colour (no not gold!!) Looks lovely. My next car is likely to be a new 2010 model 3er Touring or an X1 in the bronze/brown colour.

I have just made the same change, and I'm very happy that I did too.

I had an e92 335i msport. It was a cracking motor and has gone to a good home. All too often though, it would be kept in the garage in favour of taking the family out in the wife's MPV. This meant that the e92 became a car that took me to and from work and little else really.

I changed to an LCI e91 335i msport about 4 weeks ago. I have taken the family out in this car more times then I did in 2 years with the e92. It clearly isn't as sleek as the coupe, but is a cracking looking motor - not really an estate imo, more a 3 series hatch back.

In LCI guise the e91 does look special, and when I do a few mods to it soon (19" CSLs, lowered and BMW performance side skirts) it will match the coupe visually.

All in all, for my purposes it was a good move. Residuals wise, I wouldn't worry about it. If you manage a good saving in comparison to a coupe in the first place, worse residuals over time won't hit you as much.

Good luck with your decision - either way, you will have a lovely motor.

Hi Yahoo,

I think you've been reading my mind...

Before the car was wrapped it wasnt used very much as a family car, but since its been wrapped ive used it even less as ive been worried about it being marked. Ive been using it this week to take the youngest (she's 3) to nursery and every time shes climbed out ive heard myself think, "watch the door sill"..

The LCI E91 does look the dogs danglies IMO and look forward to seeing yours once youve added your mods..

Feel free to pm me with any links you have

(not that i want to copy you)

Welcome to the E91 335d club! I've only seen one other one so far.

Looks good in white too.

Are you going to use it to tow something?!

Don't reckon the pre LCI E91 looks too bad either though. Might be me but the new tail lights are not quite doing it for me - I do like the front tweaks though.

Abyss - it mentions a towbar on the spec! Please don't tow anything heavy if you do use it!

A 335d E91 meet would be rather cool.

looks good, I like it in white, and i see the value of a touring. Don't have any kids or dogs, well not yet, and despite the fact i convinced the wife (well convinced is too strong a word ) that the E93 is a practical car as it has 4 seats, I am still glad that she has my old V50, as it make shifting stuff around so much easier

Plus it means I don;t have to use the BMW for trips to the tip etc
