Porter Cable 7336

Ok, I know the two are very similar. But at Lowes it says that it is a sander. Just want to make sure the model in this link is ok.

That's the one! The full model name is 7336SP with the "SP" standing for sander polisher. Folks that work with wood look for the same orbital motion when working down fine finishes on wood surfaces. The affect is the same on your car's paint i.e. "random orbital" for preventing heat buildup and reducing the chance of a concentric swirl or round marring on your clearcoat.

What you'll need is a velcro (hook and loop in detailing parlance) backing plate and an assortment of buffing pads. There are several good BP/pad kits online.

The only difference between the 7336 and the 7424 is the counterweight. On the 7336 it is better to go with a slightly larger backplate (6"), because the counterweight is a little heavier. In any event, that's the one.

Im surprised that Picus has time to not only work on tons of cars, but has time to post in numerous FORUMS and give out advice... I try to swing by throughout the day during work while Im on hold or on the phone...

I actually don't do any of the work on the cars. I have trained monkeys and dogs. The dogs run around with porter cables and the monkeys apply tire shine!

Thanks for the info.

I will probably get it from Lowes. Anyone have any other suggestions?

I finally got my car so I want to buy something asap. Sorry for all the questions but I've noticed that the 7336 seems to be less expensive on ebay? Since there is little difference between the two is that the one to go with, or I am mistaken?

Thanks.
