15,000 MILE Oil change going to 18,000
Just did my 15000 mile oil change today and SA showed me the e-mail that was sent to them that 15,000 mile oil change has been changed to 18,000. But e-mail states that when you bought the car and they said its 15,000 mile oil change they can do it, but they need to send a message out to BMWNA. also, make sure you tell him its 15,000 if not they'll let you come back.
I also took a picture of a Tiag 335 and white 328. I'll upload it once i get home.

interesting info. probably the reason why the computer is saying 18,000 miles for the oil service.

I was wondering why the vehicle maintenance screen of my '06 330xi displays 29000km before an oil change. I guess the new mileage figure was implemented before I took delivery last month. Doesn't really matter though, I'm still entitled to one oil change a year regardless of mileage anyway.

Yep...I am at 18,400 miles and get a warning at startup.
My car tells me "service overdue" I go in on thurs for the free servicing. I am at -1100 miles according to the computer!! LOL! I did get an oil change done at 10K that I paid for...so this will be my second oil change.

SI B11 08 98 Engine June 2006 Technical Service This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. 11 08 98 dated October 2005. (New) designates changes to this revision SUBJECT BMW Engine Oils MODEL All E-Series from MY 1999 to present. SITUATION Starting with the introduction of the 1999 3 Series (E46), BMW introduced an extended oil change interval of approximately 15,000 miles depending on engine operating conditions. The engine oil change interval of approximately 15,000 miles has been carried over to all 2001 BMW models. However, engine oil should be changed at least once a year. This revision (annual oil change) is retroactive to earlier model years and is included in the BMW Maintenance Plan. To coincide with the increased oil change interval, BMW also introduced "BMW High Performance Synthetic Oil" SAE 5W-30. |

Check your manual. When I got my change of oil I had 11000 miles and the service rep want to charge me for it, but I show him the manual that states to change oil once a year and that took care of it. No charge.

I had the same issue with my 330i when I had it. Tell them to reset the car data as it is not accurate.

Ha! Ill keep changing mine every 6-7k. When you learn to do it yourself, theres no way you'd wait forever or drive tot he dealer just to get it done, all while waiting 2 hours for it, when it takes you 15 minutes...
Changing the oil on the E90 is also one of the easiest to do considering the filter and oil drop is right on top of the engine. Only thing under the car is the drain. When I change it on my X5 I have the filter and drain both on the bottom, still a lot easier than to take it to the dealer. |

i'm just thinking the silver lining is that bmw is keeping costs and time down by setting that type of interval, accepting that they are putting in print and practice something that makes their cars' driving experiences not as ...smooth? and possibly down right bad? for some of their cars... depending on where in the world they're being driven... than if you take matters into your own hands and do your own changes leading to the 'freebie' from bmw.

You know what, as long as they keep covering everything else, the oil interval doesn't bother me. I'll change my own oil every 5, just as long as they do my brakes, wipers, lights, and anything else that may come up.

Let’s see. 15k equals 3 oil changes during the warranty period. 16k still equals three. 17k cuts it to two, except that a buyer who uses the 500 mile window can still get three. 18k equals two, and only two, visits under “free maintenance”. What a coincidence.
Does anyone still think that BMW’s engineers are making this call? We should start a pool for the first report of E90 sludge or severe valve train wear. And yes, I know that those who are leasing couldn’t care less. |

thats the thing... why would an entity like bmw want to even allow the door to creep open in the minds of some owners that their stance on 'free maintenance' is a bit shady... 15k interval?
but things could get worse... but then some of us would be less willing to pay the premium prices for the bmws. |
