Sunroof Question, (yes I searched 1st)
Hey guys, I was curious as if I never use my sunroof in my 2006 325xi will that hurt anything, like dry out seals or have the track or gears seize up in any way?
Reason I ask is the dealer would not really say, and I hate the sunroof, I wish I could of got my car without one like you can now, but I am stuck with one. I keep the cover closed as well all the time, but my worry is since my CPO does not cover any leaks or seals, I dont want to ruin it by not using it. Should I use it once a month just to keep it functioning or if I dont open it but once a year will that be ok? Thanks for any input or experience with sunroofs..

On average I opened the sunroof once a year. But I also parked my car in garage at home and at work. So far, no issues with it due to lack of use.
I have heard many story of exploding sunroof but no one have a solid reason on why they explode. Knowing that I leave my sunroof cover opened a bit so that there is no pressure built up in the small area between the cover and the glass.

I would think you would be fine. i could not imagine you are the first person with a BMW that does not use the sunroof.

Agreed. If you're concerned, just slide open and tilt once every few months. Wouldn't worry about it much though.

^^ yeah whats that? 1st time I heard of this?
Thanks Guys, I will try to open it once or twice a year. I am just paranoid I guess since now hardly nothing is covered and I cant afford to be dropping benjis on a bunch of stuff I dont need to.

my bad, search link don't work after certain length of time because the sever cleared out the cache.
here are a few direct links (if you want more, search for "exploding sunroof) to get a more complete counts of incident. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...loding+sunroof http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...loding+sunroof http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...loding+sunroof http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...loding+sunroof http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...loding+sunroof

OH MY GOD!
I never thought of this as a real could happen to me story, but now I am going to be paranoid as hell. I leave my cover and sunroof SHUT at all times, I think we need to really dig into this to find a root cause so we can prevent having it happen to us as well

a good use for the sunroof is on a hot summer day, as you're approaching your car, use the key fob to open all windows plus sunroof to let the heat out before you get to it. Other than that, I don't use mine.

^^ good idea, dont you just hold the unlock button on the key fob for a few seconds to do this?
