How do you think the new M5 will fare against the GT-R? Twin turbo V8 or V10 I believe is the choice.

Ive heard its a V8 4.4 Twin turbo with 550HP and will prob waste the nissan.
Amazed a touring can live with a GT-R even with a washing machine in the back, how cool is that!

I never get these sort of vids.
Is the point to figure out who can press the accelerator pedal just before a given point? Surely you can look at the power output and weight of each car and work out what's going to happen in a straight line? |

So exactly - why go drag racing? Pointless if you ask me. Go to a track and see what you and your car can do. As i said i had money down on an M5 way before i'd heard about a GTR Plus you are doing your usual of comparing a modded car with a stock car and coming to a conclusion based on that. |

Quite a bit of skil needed in launchiNg a car! Ask anyone whose tried. Also good performance indicator. Fortunately I can drive very well at the track and drag strip. ALso saying it's pointless is A VERY blinkered point of view, lots of people enjoy it. rwyb days are always packed and every forum I'm on loads of people love it. Didn't think you of all people would be so blinkered about it.
Back on topic, the touring os nearly 200kg heavier than the saloon.

Mister - do you know the specs then? Otherwise that's a rather brave move. Maybe it'll nbe a hybrid? Or a diesel...?!
Is the M5 Touring 200kgs heavier?! The 3 series touring is only about 50kgs more than the saloon! Fortunately I can drive very well to Sainbury's... |

I can tell you one thing about launching too - in the 335d for sure - I cant launch well AT ALL so if someone else can then fair play to them! The correct answer for why bother with Drag Racing is - why the fuck not? Why bother to get out of bed, wash your bollocks and go to work? Why bother to play xbox games when truly, you achieve nothing. Why go to the cinema for 2 hours of empty pleasure? Why spunk your load over a couple of Estonian prostitutes? Why do anything? Actually, in the words of Billie Piper 'Coz I want to!' Regards Matt |

I think it is rather pointless because your not exploring the car in full. And it's not that much of a skill to launch a car and drive it down a 1/4 mile unless you are talking about drag racing. But in everyday cars......i bet i could get within spitting distance of your time just by copying your method. So where is the glory in that. Doesn't prove much about you. And certainly not much about your car as it doesn't consider how well it corners etc. Now if you asked me if i could get within 30 seconds of you round The Ring...i would concede i can't. |

Least im enjoying several aspects to my car. its a fun way yo go racing, much cheaper than a track day. Providing you have a good driver, IT IS a good performance indicator. If cars were only Built to handle, they would all have the same engine, they dont and cars have different powered engines.

One test of the 335d did mention the diesel engine was considered for the M3...
Anyone seen Evo? It mentions a 740d - no not a 4.0 litre diesel but a version of the 35d engine - with a bit (but not actually a lot) more torque and bhp. 340d could be good if they do one but a remap of the 35d unit gets a lot more power and torque (40d seem to be around 315bhp and 470lbs/ft). |
