Whats up with the cheap interior parts?
The other day the keyhole cover panel fell off. Upon inspection two out of three metal clips had snapped. Strange cause I have CA and I rarely us the keyhole. Then my wife noticed a bubble in the paneling between the two dash cupholders. I guess this thing is coated and not a solid piece of colored plastic. Then just a few days ago I notice a large bubble in the paneling just below the rear driver window. Has this happened to anyone else? I haven't seen anyone complain of this.

I would also say that "softer touch" high-end materials are inherently susceptible to wear. They often involve multiple layers of different materials (plastics, epoxys, etc.) that tend to separate (hence your bubbling). The soft touch paint applied to the interior door panels is another example.
No offense, but the dash mat in a Toyota corolla might as well be a slab of concrete it's so hard. Nothing high-end about that.

I just test drove the 335i coupe today, and noticed that the interior is noticeably lower quality than my 2006 325i. The 335 was really underwhelming for me. Except for the steering wheel and seats, all the other surfaces seem to be cheaper feeling. Even the turn signal and shfit knob didn't feel as hefty.
I'm so confused. Everything looked so familiar, but yet so different. I want to update and upgrade to the 335i, but it really didn't get me excited. I thought test driving a brand new car would make my 4 year old car show it's age...but it didn't. Can anyone speak to the quality between the years? Psychological or fact? |

oh and the 335 felt stronger and youre right, through a 4 year difference they still look the same...but then again i wouldnt expect bmw to change anything material-wise during a model phase

Well yes, the engine and performance did get me excited, but the interior disturbed me a lot! All the subtleties of the interior were different! The way the buttons clicked, the way the doors locked...everything.
The twin turbos were obviously the highlight of the car, but while fast and powerful, I was surprised by how rough it idled. The engine sounds were also raspier than the confident growl I remembered from the E46 generation. |
