Breitling or rolex?

Hi all

just wanted some opinions on some watches I'm thinking about buying. It's really between the breitling superocean chronomat or rolex submariner date adjust. I love both watches but am swaying toward the breitling. I am aware that rolexs are a better investment come time to trade in. Any advice, help and opinions would be great.

Many thanks

Have you asked Wil-E?

I think he prefers Rolex.

You want good watch choices go buy the Robb Reports Mag! Loaded with sick watches ones I have never even heard of and I am a small time collector.

Hi Mikey ,both are very nice pieces,You already know the Rolex is a better investment but my advice is buy with your heart its going to be on your wrist for years to come ,

The Rolex sub date is a classic and has changed little in 50 years it has rock solid secondhand values ,I buy and sell loads of watches and i have a 1993 sub date i paid £1770 for it and would get my money back on it tomorrow if is sold it,there arent many things you can wear every day for 16yrs and get your money back.

If you are interested i have a sub date for sale on the classified section on here ,its the 50 anniversary 16610LV with bigger markers on the dial and green bezel ,but i have had a black bezel fitted through choice ,I still have the LV bezel so i can fit that if i want a change .

Take a look on www.rolexforums.com its a very informative site ,you will find that you should be able to negotiate 25+% of a Brietling and around 10% off a Rolex sub.

You will find that Breitlings can lose considerable amounts of money so buy at the right price so to avoid getting nailed come time to change also look at the new Breitling BO1 very nice Piece

let us know what you buy best regards Scooba

Rolex all the way .. i have a few and love them and they hold great value ... brietling is a "thing" right now, no one really knew much about them or even liked them till they started getting blingged out!! even though they have been good pieces all along...

Breitling. Given the option, however, I would go with Bvlgari.

thanks for all the replys guys! Rolex really seem to be the watch of choice. Its true what you all say they are classic timepieces and if I could afford it I would love a daytona as one lucky gentleman has along with a breitling! I've just had a look at the Breitling B01 and what a watch!!!! Thats really thrown the mixer! I will have to save a bit longer if I am to get one of them. I think with it being such a new model it would be a good buy but then again if I get a rolex or breitling at the right price then that would be better for the future. Dont get me wrong I want to buy the watch that i'm going to enjoy and I will really value it! I planned to get a nice timepiece for my 30th also but thats 3 and a bit years away which I cant wait for! Every time I walk past the swiss watch shop I go in, so thats why I want to get one soon.

I prefer the breitling watches, I have a Navitimer (limited edition fighter, brushed not polished) and Colt, both really nice watches. Rolex just doesnt do it for me for some reason. It was either a Rolex or Tag so Ibought the Tag (indy 500) as it felt better for some reason and saved a few bob aswell, even though I went out to buy the rolex.

They are both very nice watches but I think the comments so far sum up the pro's and con's of each. The Rolex is definitely the better investment and also a league above the Breitling in terms of prestige and quality. If you are basing your choice on the aesthetic aspects then no problem letting your heart rule this one, especially if long term value doesn't matter. Another couple of brands to throw into the pot are IWC, Patek as already mentioned and JLC, all very desirable and probably more exclusive than a Rolex.

Let us know what you choose,

Jules
