Clay bar and hot day = sticky fun

Made the mistake of starting my Zaino in the mid-day sun. By the time I got to the claybar step (after dawn rinse) the car was hot to the touch. Lube helped the claybar glide, but I occassionally hit a hit dry bit and smeared the clay. Won't be doing that again in a hurry.

So to all the noobs like me, make sure you clay when it's relatively cool and do it in the shade.

Good advice! Another tip from a fellow clay rookie: Use plenty of lube (preferably nothing too expensive since you will go through quite a bit doing the whole car). I used Meguiar's QD the first time, but from now on it will be a shampoo/water solution (much cheaper).

Yes.........use plenty of lube and do it in the shade or in the evening. I wash it first then use the clay bar while it is still wet using the lube at the same time; then wash it again. Never any mess

Well, here is another tip. Under direct sun in a very hot day, NEVER wash your car! Not only because of the watermarks, but because you risk to see you windshield crack from the temperature difference. I saw it happening in the previous 7 series! If you absolutely have to wash right then, obviously find a way to warm up the water!

Using a waterless wash solution, diluted 2:1 makes for a cheap clay lube and saves you a re-washing step:

1. Wash car - don't need to fully dry
2. Spray one panel/section at a time, spray clean clay area
3. Clay panel
3. One more spray on panel, and wipe clean with a microfiber towel
4. Kneed clay and move on

No need to re-wash/dry car. I use diluted Poorboys Spray and Wipe + PB Clay or Pinnacle Ultra Poly Clay this way.

Gotta clay bar in the evening or in a garage. Garage preferred!
