It is pure profit for the company that sells it to you. But if you are the one in 1000 person that collects it will be worth it. The only reason the company sells it is because the vast majority of folks will never use it.

I've always been very strongly against all of those added extras. It's pure profit for the dealer, and the person selling them to you makes a commission. Forget all of it, in my opinion. I've done this for years and it's never come back to bite me yet. As said above, the only reason they offer it (and have a dedicated person trying to sell it to you) is because they make lots of money.

If something happens, just pay for it. It's very unlikely you will make up the cost of insuring wheels and tires. Also consider all the limitations - if your situation doesn't fit into their requirements and protocols, they won't do a thing for you.

Umm... I took mine to a tire shop and had my runflats replaced... With runflats. It wasn't any more expensive on the labor end of things then non-runflats. That being said, I'm about to go away from runflats because of the horrible ride quality, but that's another thing entirely.

Did someone tell you that most places can't change rfts? Because my experiences tell me that's bs.

well it all depends

i love that i got it...

i dont know what it was, but a rock or something chipped my sidewall, i took it to the dealer, i got a new tire! woot!
it was still drivable but since it was dangerous (if i took a few too hard corners, it could pop on me, and with the ability to got 150mph... it wouldnt be safe)

so, right there, that was what, $400 saved for me? lol
and i just got my car in May
if i just change one more tire thats another 400 saved, meaning a total of 800
my tire + rim insurance cost me $750 or so, spread out in a 5 year loan.
so for me, it was hell worth it cause i took advantage of it.

but like others said, if youre not gonna use it, it's a waste, get other insurance. if youre like me and will use it, then go ahead and get it.

I purchased tire insurance for five years at a price of $560. I've subsequently had to replace four tires at a price of ~$470.00 per tire (service included). If you have low profile tires and live in an area with a significant number of potholes, purchasing the insurance is sure to pay in the long run.

I purchased the wheel and tire insurance and then cancelled it on the 91st day for a full refund. The reason I cancelled it was because the last car I had, I had for 6 years and not once did I have any wheel or tire issues with it. So I figured I'd take the risk. After I cancelled it, 2 months later, I received a nail in the tire and wish I had kept it... -=\

I was offered tire insurance when I bought my CPO, but decided it was too much. I just had a fat bolt through the tread of one Turanza and go flat last week. It had maybe 1500 miles on it. It cost $229 to replace at Mr. Tire installed. I guess if I'd bought the insurance I'd have to get at least two more flats to break even?

Through the dealer I bought the policy from, two tires and rims were replaced with no hassle.
Through my home dealer, the assholes hung up on me, my SA, and then finally proceeded to offer to send an adjuster to make sure I have 3/32" tread after I had three techs and the general service manager tell them that I did, all because the first moron was fixin for his cigarette and didn't catch "the client has over 3/32" the first time and denied my claim.

Apparently they employ non-english speaking people in Queens who have never driven on a road, let alone one in New England.

Road America through Classic sold by my favorite dealer in the world. YMMV. So far they've paid out over $1000 to me. They're just pissed off I got the better of them, but if they keep this shit up, I'm going to get my money back on the rest of the policy after they pay out for this one.

A new 18" style 162 rim with runflat will run you over $800. That's just for one corner.

As you can see, the OEM tires are really expensive: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

I was also skeptical initially but went ahead and got wheel & tire insurance anyway. Barely 6 months later, I got a nail in my rear right RFT yesterday. Got a new tire today and the BMW dealer billed the insurance directly, so no out-of-pocket expenses or reimbursement hassles.

If I didn't have the insurance, I wouldn't have gone back to the dealer since that was close to a $450 job. But it sure is reassuring to have a new tire and have had the dealer take care of everything.

Why did you need the rims replaced ? was it structural or cosmetic? no hassles?

i used to think that it was a bad investment until i ran over a muffler on the hwy. The total cost was close to $1k to repair and replace a tire. Therefore, yes it is worth it..The only complaint i have was BMW giving a Kia as a rental..lol
