Last price I know was EUR 2150 plus VAT. They claim +37hp (crank), +70Nm (crank).

IMO the answer to your second question would be no - if you're looking for a flash, there is better for less on the market.

For a Flash, look in the UK (I believe there is a tuner with some interesting results)
The flashes are getting to a more mature level these days, but for real power look at the solutions from either BMS or Vishnu (Procede)

Price quality and power are outperforming the flashes. GIAC is also a player that is releasing a new flash (GIAC has a very strong track record in the market)

The biggest issues upon why I decided to go for a procede is the fact that I don't want to send my ECU everytime to the US and have my car out of the running.

Very happy with my Procede V3.... no issues with the dealer or engine trouble....

oh.. no problem. Just look at the links in my signature below. Gives you info on the PROcede, how to purchase it, and what it does compared to other options.

Cheers,

It is not so difficult to do it yourself. Or you can just ask someone with better technical skills for some help.

BTW, do you think taking out the whole ECU (to send to reflash it) is much easier?

You will be able to install it yourself. Promise Just take your time. Eventually, you'll be able to install/uninstall within 10 minutes. We have a lot of overseas customers. If you have a local forum, just ask around. I'm sure someone can help you if you need someone to look over your shoulder.

If you're looking for a flash, there are several solutions that work very well. DMS or Evolve in the UK are excellent (just try the search function for more info); I have the Evotech flash (Germany). You could mail one of these firms and see whether they have a distributor in Spain, which would avoid sending in the ECU (which is quite bothersome indeed, although being in the EU it should only be a matter of days).

Then there are the piggyback solutions, Juicebox and Procede are the most popular ones. Again, try the search function to find out more. As they're exclusively US products, there probably won't be any dealer for that in Europe. They're not diagnostically invisible either, by the way, except in case you buy a BavTech tool and clear codes before going to the dealer.

FYI... the PROcede is diagnostically invisible since it is equipped with a built-in code reader/clearer. No need to purchase a separate BavTech tool.

Hmm... I have to agree with Shiv, the install is the first time exciting... opening the ecu box..., but you need to do that anyway if you send your ECU off to a tuner...

After 3 times installing, you can dream the install... nothing to worry about... otherwise
you can visit me in Spain in september, to have a look at my setup....

Bottomline, with a Flash or Piggyback you have to work in the ECU compartment, with a JB3 or with the Procede you additionaly have to install some cables..

The Procede installed in my car is invisible to my dealer, never had a code! I do have a Bavartian Tech cable, but that is more for tuning optimization...
I have been driving around for 55000 KM with the procede and no tune related issues (although the amount of tyres I have been consuming..... ;-))

Although EVO in the UK is absolutly not bad either, but pretty sure that the performance is quite different compared to the Procede....

Thanks for the correction.

It was only that I was informed by several flash tuners that new (European?) software versions of the ECU also detect piggybacks. However, it may certainly be that this information is not correct or does not apply to the Procede.

Alpina_B3_Lux
Your information is correct. The newer ECU software does do a pretty good job of detecting piggyback ECUs. And the new software that should hit the dealerships within the next 2-3 months is going to be even more tuner unfriendly. But only for non-PROcede tunes that don't provide dealership-level diagnostic code reading/clearing. The reflash guys will have something to worry about soon too.

That's always bad news...but I had a conversation with Evotech recently and it seems they already have a prototype of the X5 V8 biturbo engine tuned with more than 500 hp crank (compared to 400 stock). It would therefore seem that certain tuners (with enough knowledge) still continue to be able to modify the ECU without major hickups.
