RFT Front Tyre Wear

Hi all,

Just had my fronts replaced after 18.5k miles (a lot of m/way).

They still had 4-5mm across the middle, but typically wit RFT's were totally worn on the inside of both fronts.

I am so glad that I don't pay for my tyres, as this is really bad. Why are BMW running so much camber on RFT's?

The same has happened to my wife's 335d (19" RFT's) which has wrecked both fronts after only 8k - not helped by her not regularly checking tyre pressures.

This seems to be a major issue with RFT's - would suggest that everyone keeps a close eye on both tyre pressures and the tread levels on the inside of each tyre.

Same has happened on mine but on the outer edges. My pressures have been checked regularly and have all been fine. I hate the RFTs and its a pain paying for new tyres when there is so much tread left in the middle.

Same here - one of my fronts has a completely bald strip on the outside edge, but 4mm of tread still across the tyre after 40k miles. Lease company claim they are still legal, so won't swap them out. Tyre shop said to keep a close eye. Check pressures every week.

shouldnt Be much camBer on the fronts mate... Id get a Full KDS done.

Rears on the other hand, im wearing out every 4-5k (non runflat)

40k miles!!?? ive only done 16k and my fronts are like that and i replaced my rears after 13k

Had new rears at 25k. Majority is motorway miles though - plus it's a 120d not a 135i!

Exactly the same for me. Fronts have 4-5 mm in middle, < 2 mm at sides. Rears are wearing much more evenly across the tyre and are ~ 2.5 mm.

The BMW service guy said that the front wear was due to too low a pressure - I said bo**ocks, and that I check them with 2 separate gauges every week. So I guess must be to do with how BMW sets up the geometry and because their r-flats.

Got shock £1000 quote from BMW to replace all 4. I found same tyres on t'internet for £720 on mytyres.co.uk. so may go this route in a month or two.

I have done 13,000 miles and my fronts are ok for tread, but the rubber has lots of little cracks in it. The rears were worn out at 10,250 miles

Shocking, but it cost us £1200 to replace the 19's on my wife's 335d. Our dealer also blamed the uneven tyre wear on poor pressures - total bollocks!

Thankfully mine are taken care of c/o the lease!

I destroyed my first set of rears in 9500 miles and they are now down to 3mm again (19000 miles).

It's just amazing how much these run-crap tyres cost. I wish consumables were covered on my car.

As an aside, the BMW guy said that if I got a better quote he would negotiate on price, but also said that if the tyres I provided got damaged when they were being fitted (apparently quite common with the very stiff side-wall on run-flats), I would not be covered under their insurance. So it looks like I may still have to pay the extra £300 BMW want just incase they get damaged while fitting!

Now I really am Mad.

Hi, my rear (both) Bridgestone Potenza 18 RFT almost desintegrated with 13k miles. Apparently the tread was good but checking after the loss air sign with my hand for a nail or sort of, found that the inside was showing the steel mesh and the plies.

This was exactly on the other side. Both on the inside. Despite the fact that manufacturers do not aplly guarantee terms to tires and batteries, did any one had any experience regarding this issue, since in fact the cause might be they selected the wrong brand or maybe a project mistake?
