My car randomly goes into limp mode.. it's done it 3 times over the course of 4 months now, where for about 8 miles.. the engine won't perform. Then at a red light the car just shivers and coughs. I already called BMW about it twice and they even looked at it once but because it does not do it 90% of the time.. they said there's nothing they can do. I mean everytime I bring it in it works fine so I can see where they're comning from but would appreciate any info or help anyone has regarding this issue.

so what do you suggest? asking for a new fuel pump from the dealer?

Yeah. Tell them to check for stored error codes in your ECU and remind them about the 120,000 mile warranty on all HPFPs. If they still won't do it, keep telling them to and eventually they will.
