'09 E90 LCI, are Xenons really worth the extra?
Hey everyone.
A question, I saw a LCI E90 at the dealer today in the is it 'blue water' color. They had a 320i (Nav/Heated Seats), as I was driving home from the dealer I saw the Bi-Xenons weren't on their showroom model, just the halogen. Do you think Xenons make a big diff, are they worth getting. This car is $78000 (NZD). Thanks. EDIT************************ Could the dealer give me a genuine parts upgrade to the Xenons???

That's a big HELL YES. Not only do they make the car look a lot better but the visibility is greatly improved. I originaly had halogens on my car but convereted to xenons, made a huge difference.
The look alone is worth the extra money. Halogens do not belong on a BMW, they make the car look outdated. I mean these days I'm even seeing $15k Hyundai's with HIDs on them. |

Definitely xenon bro... You will not regret that decision.
The xenons produce significantly more lumens over halogens Angel Eyes are sexy Adaptive Headlights Wider light band to cover the road I wish BMW would upgrade their bulbs and projectors though. I see Acura's with better HIDs projectors than our BMWs. D1S is a little outdated in my personal opinions. Lexus is already running D4S. |

I can imagine what your gonna have to pay for xenons.... it would have cost me an extra 8 grand to get them in my car, so i was like FUCK THAT! considering i was already paying 80K USD for a fucking 320i. I couldnt be bothered with HID's.
Now, after i got my car i still wanted to retrofit my car with them, but still it was expensive. I figured its not really worth it for me seeing as i live in Caribbean country, the roads never stay straight for more than 40 meters so its not like i really need the visibility. My halogens do an excellent job after i swapped out my OEM lights to some sylvannia bulbs which were hyper white. then i changed to the Preditor xenons from jlevisw and it was pretty sick. Do i still want angel eyes? no. initially i really wanted it badly, but now its no big deal. At first its going to bother you if you dont get it but eventually you will forget about it entirely cause your too busy looking at the rest of the car. realistically, for the price your gonna pay for those angel eyes, you could get a set of m6 replica rims and tires (general exclaim) and a rear spoiler lip as well as front splitters for your car. well, i hope the insight of my issue helps you make your decision. Good luck with your purchase!

Xenon lights are totally worth it, but not at any price. I have them and at the beginning I was driving my car at night alot and they were really really helpful, I could drive for hours without getting tired. But right now I don't drive too much at night and aside from the looks I don't really care for them. However, I got into my old car with halogens and drove at night for a bit and it really sucked.

Well the dealer has the brand new 09 320i E90 with the Halogens, do you think they can use genuine parts and upgrade it there?

I am not so sure about the practicality of HID lights. On low beam, because they are so bright, they have a sharp cutoff line. Because they are so bright, my night vision is totally destroyed. The combination of these factors means I can't see anything (without its own illumination source) beyond the sharp cutoff edge of the low beams.
Of course, when the brights are on, there is no question that they are better in every way. So if you are one of those driving with the brights on all the time, they are definitely worth is. Well until somebody takes a sledge hammer to your lights.... |

I agree. I've had Xenons on my lat two cars. They work pretty well on my E91 but I find the sharp cutoff very distracting. Personally, I think plain old halogens work just as well. Maybe they're not as bright, but you don't have that annoying cutoff. Besides, I had halogens for years and never had a problem seeing at night. Now, I'm sure I'll get flamed for saying this, but I feel that HIDs are overrated.

Halogens
Bought an X5 in 2005 with everything except xenons. Big mistake. I regretted it everytime I drove at night, especially in the rain. I upgraded the lights to high output halogens but still no comparison to the Xenons. The X5 had enough performance to get me into trouble several times due entirely to visibility issues.
Now I have an 09 330d with Visibility package and its worth every penny. Stress-free night driving and massively improved levels of safety. I will never buy another car with halogens |

I can't believe BMW's don't come with xenons standard. As others have mentioned once you have them you don't want to go back.
My 2002 s2000 had them for christsake! |
