Dealer scuffed my front bumper.
Hi
Well the last time I went to my dealer (BMW of SD) was a couple of weeks back and I believe they scuffed my front bumper. I found this out right before starting my car wash. It was definitely not there before when I did my car previous car wash and it is definitely not me who did this. I am super careful not to scuff anything in my car. So I need some advice. I will be calling my service adviser anyway.. Possible actions: 1. Should I get my dealer to write me a check to repaint? - It will be a hassle though to explain this to my dealer, convince them then go to body shops and get price quotes, leave my car there for few days to get painted and then who knows it might get scuffed again in my next visit. I'm not sure if this worth it. 2. Touch it up myself. The scuffs are at the bottom and not even visible unless you look under the bumper. I have lot of Jet black touch up paint and clear coat. Has anyone gone through this kind of experience with the dealers? Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks

You already signed the paper work and left the dealer right? Dealer will not admit liability unless you catch them doing it. You should've inspected the car thoroughly. Trust me, I learned this lesson the hard way. Save the hassle, just buy some touch up paint.
you are lucky it's at the bottom and out of sight. Just touch it up because there is a very good chance you will scrape it again (even if this was not your own doing). |

I already have lot of BMW Jet black touch up paint and clear coat. I'll still contact my dealer and let them know and see what they say first and then proceed..

if you're not too upset with it, then just do it yourself, however, I always check for things like this when the dealer gives me my car back. good habit imho..

that sucks. but odds are there not gonna take any responsibility since its been so long. so might as well try to fix it yourself or leave it alone since you cant see it.

couple of weeks is a long time, maybe a day or at most a couple of days. They can easily deny your claim because they will just say you did it or someone else in that long time frame.

A friend of mine used to work in a new car dealer's service garage. I won't mention any details, but here's the story.
A man brings in his luxury car for service. His wife leaves a Louis Vuitton handbag in the car. When the man comes back to pick up the car, the bag is gone and he goes ballistic. The bag was probably around $500, maybe more. One of the owners of the dealership gets involved. He gathers the entire service department and informs them that if the bag is not returned by noon the next day, everyone is fired. Needless to say, the bag was returned. |

I am very careful when I drive my e90 not to scratch the bumper.
I always check the underneath the bumper before dropping off my car. ...When I picked up my car from the body shop, for some minor bodywork, I noticed my bumper was scratched and brought it to their attention... My entire bumper was repainted...since I caught them in time! |

If you picked it up from service several weeks ago, then I cannot see them taking care of this for you. How many miles have you put on it since you picked it up?

Similar thing happened to me last week. Dealer had fitted my new lights-
1.Came to collect the car. 2.Noticed scratches/scuff marks just below where they had fitted the new lights. 3.Dealer said they hadnt done it! 4.Told them id be back in 2 hours and it had better be fixed. 5.came back after the 2 hours and scratches/scuffs were gone. Dealer had a lucky escape! If youre sure they were to blame then go and speak to them-why should they get away with damaging your car? From now on when i leave my car ill get someone from the dealership to inspect it before i leave it with them..........then if theres any damage when i come to collect it theyve got no choice but to admit liability and repair it. |

I do hate when/if dealerships get careless and/or abuse customers' vehicles.
But I also think it's nuts to go through life thinking it's time to get a lawyer and claim emotional pain and suffering. It's like the endless stuff that comes in the mail nowadays about class action lawsuits. Ok, fill out all this personal info and you will get 13 cents per share owned in 1999-2002. I wouldn't mind getting that $80-$150 but to fill out something equivalent to a Schedule D and go back 8-10 years is crazy. In the OP's case, the dealership should fix it up, but in reality, it will only happen again eventually. Like making someone repaint your hood for one chip--its gonna happen again. Would you do it if it were your own $$$? So why should a person become unreasonable when they think someone else will pay? The lawyer-up post was ridiculous. |
