6AT not shifting?
I have an e93 335i and today, i was starting from a red light on M2 (I always do) and i decided to drop it into M1 to pass this truck but when i downshifted and floored it... my car threw itself forward (well duh turbos kicked in...) but it revved up to 7500!! RPM and wouldn't upshift until i put it back into D and let off the throttle......
this could have been dangerous cause the car basically lagged for until i went back into D... wtf? This is not normal right? i only have about 2500 miles on my car. it's times like this i wish I had 6MT cause I would always be shifting.. and not relying on a computer that can have errors.... |

Dude. You had it in manual mode. M1 which is what the M stands for. Which means you need to up and down shift by pushing and pulling the knob. When you move the shifter to the left and it says DS it automatically shifts for you. Once you move it forwards or backwards its up to you to shift until you move it back to D.

I think he knows that.... He's saying that the only way he could get it to upshift was to switch it back into D. You guys gotta stop thinking that everyone else on these forums are retarded.... |

lol wrong? well... i didnt think it was that hard to have to push down or click the steering peddles lol
as what was said above, even in M mode, all cars except a few (g37, AMG in TRUE Manual mode, and others) will shift regardless if the RPM reaches redline as to not blow one's engine I spoke to my SA, he was confused, I spoke with the tech, and i guess he understood, but i wasnt sure if i really got what he was saying he said that since the car 'understands' the way you drive (i.e for the past hour or so i had been driving very slow and conservative) it was not ready to switch up gears because: i had started in 2nd, and the car was in that gear rolling and when i dropped it into first there wasn't enough time for the engine to shift and when i put the car into D, the car 'figured out' that it needed to shift... all in all he said I'm fine and I shouldn't drop shift like that... i was bit confused cause i do this all the time in my mom's SLK, my cousin's 335i, and did it in my old c230/c32, and my uncle's porsche... i think the tranny on our cars is great but i was slightly disappointed that the tech said i shouldn't drop gears like that.... i thought the whole point of a step was so you can drop gears at will without worrying about rev-matching and all that 'real' driving stuff that comes with driving manuals... I have yet to do it again just because I'm 'scared' I really don't want a blown tranny after ~2500 miles... warranty covered or not, i dont want it sitting in the dealer for who knows how long. but i may do it a few times just to check my tranny.... i wanna have a friend with a video so i can show it to the technician... |

Were you stopped when you dropped it into 1st?
With the torque curve on these cars, there's almost no need to ever downshift to 1st while already moving.... Just my opinion though. |

Just put it in DS next time, that will force it to start in 1st and shift the latest anyway. In a straight line, there isn't much of a point to M mode. Not sure on the Step E9x, but our 750i starts from a stop in 2nd gear unless DS or M mode is activated.

OP - that is really weird, because it doesn't matter if I'm in M1 or M2 or M whatever, if it is in manual mode and you hit the redline, IT WILL SHIFT FOR YOU
See if you can replicate it, and if so, take it to the stealer asap! |

i put it back into D let off the gas so the car would upshift and then went on my way I went to a local BMW shop here (friend gets everything done there so they'll check it but no real details unless you pay up..) and they checked my car out... seems I have a fucked up tranny of some sort... he didnt give me details but I made an appointment with my dealer, gotta get that warranty to work! but a DIFFERENT dealer :P great...car is 2600 miles old, 6 weeks, and a tranny prob...with my PROcede still in the box..... (been lazy) well, I'll see what happens when I give them my car...wonder how long they'll want it for.... he said a day at least if not a couple |
