This is key
This past week I took a road trip with my girl to a resort in Vermont. BTW, 30.3 mpg average, and easily over 500 miles to the tank.
But this is what I wanted to tell you all... While on a canoe we ran into a little bit of a situation and before we knew it we were in the water. Not a huge deal except that my shorts contained my key fob in the front pocket. As soon as I went under I immediately reached for the key because if it ever fell out of my pocket (mesh shorts) to the bottom of the river it would NEVER be found. However, to make a long story short, the key, despite being submerged in river water for quite a while, was absolutely fine and I haven't experienced a single problem. Needless to say, the walk up to my car and the anticipation while pushing the unlock button was a little nerve-racking - wondering if anything was going to happen/work. Amazingly it seems that these keys are actually capable of being submerged without getting ruined. Who knows what would happen if you held it under water for a longer period of time, but looking at the fob it sure does look fairly water-tight. So, all in all, thank you BMW for making a electronic key that can get wet! -A |

OP: that's definitely good to hear about the key fons!
FWIW the other day on my drive home from school I also got well over 500 miles out of the tank and averaged about 32 mpg |

yea the keys are pretty durable and waterproof fully. Yet the roundel as you said falls off like no other! Luckily if your car is still under warrantee the dealer ship will replace the key (not the physical key attachment) and all you have to do is place it into the car and it programs to it. And hell if you want an M3 just push your key into the nearest one on the lot before its programmed to your car and your set!

My E92 was getting similar numbers. It's just a gas efficient engine if driven properly.
My Focus actually got less mpg than my E92.

Here's another "key" tip.
When doing any canoeing, put all valuable/critical electronic items in a zip-loc bag. Trust me, works alot better especially with cell phones. |

...and you can even get a little floaty key chain thingy (it's the technical name for it, I swear) that prevents the valuables from sinking if they DO happen for fall into the water...

I am not sure if this is fixed but too many drops of the fob will also means your emblem might fall off some day.

Last weekend I drove my 335i over 500 miles, 30 of which were inside London, and averaged 29.4 mpg (US) at 70-80 mph on the motorway. Until I went into London I was getting 33.4 mpg (US). FWIW, I was using 98 RON and 95 AKI fuel.

Good to know about the key.
As for the MPG.. it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it.
