A few questions - gas mileage and rear view in reverse
1. I notice my passenger side mirror angles down when i put it in reverse but not the driver side. Are both supposed to angle down ?
My gas mileage is about 14 mpg in mixd highway and city driving with a few wide open pulls - is that ok or on the low side for this car ? Harry |

14 is low but remember stop and go affects it, using AC affects it, WOT affects it a lot...
the passenger goes goes so you can see the curb when parking.. if the driver one went down, that'd just be dumb/dangerous (at least in the US) you can move the button on your mirror changing console thing and it won't go down if you prefer it to be 'normal' (like if you're backing up, not parking, and need it to show you more) |

Whoa 14mpg? I get 30ish in my 2006 325i 6MT ZSP on the hwy. I don't drive 60 either. Usually 70-75. It averages about 26 with city. I do baby it in the city though. I know the 335i is rated at less than the 328/325 e90s, but 14 seems really low...
If you want to get better mpg, keep the avg MPG on the heads up and drive paying attention to the instant gauge. You'll train yourself pretty quickly. Also make sure your tires are inflated properly, etc... blah blah :-) |

I got about 15mpg on the first 2 tanks with mixed city/hwy. Got 12.5 on the last tank (all city). I'm following the break-in procedure, so I'm taking it easy. I've never gone over 4500rpm or pressed the "go really fast" pedal all the way to the floor. The general consensus seems to be that mileage will improve once the engine is broken-in. I hope that's true..

Reset the DIC. Mine showed rediculously bad mileage until I reset it, and then it started clocking up properly. Perhaps logged a bunch of 0MPG (idling) when doing setup at the factory or something, or isn't initialized properly initially.

How do you guys get so much variability on your avg mpg?
I reset mine about a year ago and it took about a week to get to 22.4 and it's been there for the last year. I do city driving, highway driving, mellow, aggressive, AC on/off, no change. I would assume you are looking at instantaneous mpg but it sounds like you guys are quoting averages... |

the car says avg 19.6 now
but what i go by is how many miles driven and how many gallons i put in the tank like tonight, i filled about 7.5 gallons and i had driven 162.5 miles, 21.67 that's prly cause i did a decent amount of freeway driving overall i guess I'm happy. doesnt compare to my gf's 38mpg civic though lol |

I flog my car with mostly around-town stuff, and get 21.3 mpg pretty consistently on every tank of gas.

Mine had some brutal 14MPG when it was breaking in (I don't know if that was part of it or what). Found the fob my wife used to get that, mine was 18MPG. I reset it, and now it hovers pretty consistently at 22MPG in the city, and 28-30MPG doing 70MPH on the highway.
My question to her was "WTF are you doing to the car????" She tends to baby things, and I couldn't figure out how she got 14MPG driving in "D", and I got 18 absuing it more with the paddle shifters.... |

In summer, I generally get low to mid 20's in town, high 20's to 30 highway (going fast). In the winter it takes forever to warm up and I get ~19 around town. Flogging the hell out of it up a mountain, I can get as low as 10, but it's back up to 16-17 by the time I get back down the mountain. My neighbor drives hers pretty hard and has a lifetime average of 17.9.
Those numbers are by the gauge. I find the mpg guage is usally about 1 mpg optimistic compard to the odometer/gallons pumped number. |

I average 20mpg with very spirited driving, 50% hwy. 300 miles / tank in summer, 275 winter.

Been doing a good amount of highway driving lately and getting MPG in the low 30's. Maybe I should reset the 'puter, but for now, I like what I'm seeing.
LOL...ignorance is bliss...

If the mirror adjuster tab is set to the right (passenger mirror), then the passenger mirror WONT swivel down when put in reverse. Move the adjuster tab to the middle or driver's mirror setting and it should work.
Driving it hard a lot of the time I get around 15 mpg in the city, which is pretty good. |

I'm seeing low 30s on pure summer highway driving (under 120kph/75mph indicated, handheld GPS says I'm doing 113kph/70mph), low 20s in the city. Seriously, that's as good as your pedestrian V6 in a mid-size Japanese sedan. But then again I drive like an old man 90% of the time...
