535i tuning help!!!
Hey everyone,
I feel a little out of place here but it it helps, my cousin has a 335i I'm new to the forums and new to my car. I'm only 18 years old and my dad gave me his 535i because I got a scholarship to college. That being said, I do not know a whole lot about this N54 engine besides the fact that these turbos are very much tunable. I did some research on it but a lot of the words used sound like a foreign language. Anyways, I wanted more power so after a little bit of reading, I decided to get the JB+. I've always loved cars and tried to keep up with certain models but was never a grease monkey I do not know what certain parts are called etc. It took me a while to find the TMAP but after about 20 minutes of searching for it and another 10 of removing the airbox, it was a success. Thing is, like everyone else, I can't get enough power. I was thinking about getting a JB3 pnp but I'm hesitant about going into the ECU. Considering the fact that I'm not a racer, but I like to drive my car hard on the streets, do you guys think this is a good idea? This would be my only tune. Does anyone ever feel satisfied with driving the car normally but you know it can go much faster? Sometimes I feel like I just want to know the horsepower of my car as an ego booster. Honestly, it might suffice just knowing my car is above 320 hp. That's kinda like the threshold. Anyways, sorry to bore you with my life story here. But if anyone can tell me about what's my average hp with JB+ at default settings, if I should get the JB3 based on my driving style, is JB+ good enough, WHAT THE HELL MAPS ARE, or anything I should know about anything, please let me know! +1. I was in the same boat when I first got my car. Just take some time to read up on all the options, what they will do to your car (good and bad), and how to install them properly if you plan on DIY.
and to answer your question, I believe the JB+ can add around 40hp. Like many on here, though, once you get a taste of more power, you'll want more. |

Jb+ adds up to 60hp on 93 octane if cranked up to 100% I think. But if. Your gonna run a jb+ crankedup all the way u might as well get a jb3 and run mild map like map3. You'll love it. And once in a while if u wanna feel like a monster add a few gallons of race gas and run map7. At that point you'll get a small peak of what your car is capable of

Considering at 18 my mode of transportation was a flathead 6, Rambler-American, I think he looks pretty good in a 535. In fact the very thought turns me a bilious shade of green with envy.

i disagree. if i could pay the extra money for the 535 or a 7series i would do it in a heartbeat. I wish my dad dropped me a 535 when i was 18. just dont act like a douche with it and do doughnuts in parking lots and your ok.

Eh no... The only Bmw that looks OK for an 18 yr old is the 1 series..
Any other model, and it's obvious you're just a spoiled brat or driving daddy's car... At least the 1 series looks young and sporty, and does not look that expensive... People may actually think you are paying for it yourself.. |

lets keep this on topic? op you should definately go with the jb3 or PROcede. the fact that they can give you the all out horsepower you want and then be dialed back whenever you don't want it is probably the best of both worlds.

Welcome on board and congrats on your car..Nothing wrong with being hesitant on which product to use. JB3 or Vishnu are two great products. Good luck with your final decision.

An 18 year old driving a 5 series however draws a lot of negative stereotypes such as being spoled brats or driving daddy's car.. In this case the stereotypes are correct... The OP IS a spoiled brat who got a $60K car just for getting into college, something you should do for your own good anyway... So yeah in his case, it would be nice to avoid the stereotypes by driving a lesser car, the 135 and not sacrificing performance or that BMW feel. |
