19" OEM vs 18" OEM wheels

Hi All

My car, like most here I would imagine, are fitted with the 19" wheels. Even with EDC set at comfort I find the ride a bit firm - it's my daily car. I would imagine the 18"s give a more comfortable ride.

Can anyone comment on this? Also, I believe the Driver Training M3s are fitted with 18"s for better track handling?

Thanks

Probably also b/c they are cheaper to replace. Tire cost savings also add up. Tracked the 19s, felt fine.

On an average school day - approx 80km a day. My kids school is 18km away, so there and back twice a day. If I do my usual loafing around it'll be closer to 100km a day. I think I average about 400km a week.

Perth roads aren't too bad I suppose but I kinda expected a bit of a smoother ride with the EDC comfort setting.

400kms a week a fairly solid effort. I'm lucky to do 100kms a week!

That's why my butt hurts from the 19" wheels!

Had a quote $7,200 for OEM 18" rims with Michelin PS2!!!

I think that's just the start of it......

I've been told the service costs are higher than the average BMW and some of the consumables like the synthetic oil are quite $$$.

I believe the decision to buy an M3 comes from the heart and not the brain! When you hear the growl of that V8 at WOT, all common sense disappears and raw emotion takes over.

I recently replaced the X5 run flat 20" 315mm wide tyres @ $880.00 per corner so those prices don't surprise me.

How long to the tires usually last on the M3? Can I expect to get 20-30,000kms from my first set?

I'm at 16,000kms now & mine still look great. I check the tyre pressures every week though..

I plan to replace this car before the need for tyres.

Actually, I just went not to long ago to the BPDS. All of the M3's at the BMW Performance Driving School are equipped with 19's. I have the 18's because I prefer the style and color of the 18's. I only wish they were 19's because of the size of the of the E9x.

I was already in that line of thinking many years ago. Might keep the M3 yet as well, not sure.

Androo.. too true.... nothing like an M3.. then again, there is nothing like a Porsche either - Luke you've been in Aggie's ride haven't you?

How does that feel in comparison to the M3?

I'm keeping mine for a while. Been driving 20 plus kms each way for work daily...hasn't been a chore...not one bit...even in peak traffic on the way home.

Easter Fwy heading out of the CBD in the morning is a gem!

id go with the 19s much nicer looking and the ride is excellent. i had a 335xi with 18 s which sucked over small bumps in road i think it was due to x drive because the M3 rides a million times better

I'm about to switch over to 18"s based on looks, the ride isn't that bad with the 19"s IMO.
