Stupid Pedal Shift Design! Can it be Re-programmed?
Ok....i just kinda found out the pedal shift on the M-Sport doesn't work exactly like one would expect.
Instead of left pedal = downshift and right pedal = upshift Both the left and right pedal has the same function where push down = downshift, pull up = up shift. So the left and right pedal are pretty much identical?? Isn't that kinda retarded? What's the point of having the pedal on both side then? Anyone knows if they can be re-programmed to work like a real pedal shifter? |

this is why i hated it when i test drove the automatic... i bought the manual instead.
i coudln't get the car to shift like i wanted to with the paddles...and it never upshifted or downshift fast enough and because the car was so smooth, i never knew if it shifted or what gear the car was in , and i always had to look down at the cluster. |

You could probably swap for these if you're willing to pay. They're dedicated upshift on the right, downshift on the left and also click when you use them so there's no doubt whether you made the shift or not. There's a very good DIY guide on the boards that explain how to remove and disassemble your steering wheel as well.

I'm quite certain that you'll typically only find petals on flowers.

it's designed like that so that for people who drive putting their arm on the door, and using one hand to drive, can up/down shift while keeping their other hand on their lap, on their phone, on the iDrive, or whatever
it's really easy to use once you get used to it. |

I don't like the dedicated paddes because then I have to use both hands on the wheel at all times. I normally do that for spirited driving, but for just casual driving, I prefer I hand. |

It had to be two switches that is clicked when pusing the lever.
It has to be pretty easy to switch the cables on the left side, making it oposit. |

i like it cause you can shift using one hand, but when its setup how u like it, both hands have to be on the wheel...And for some reason when i shift using the gear lever, it shifts faster than when I use my paddle shifters??

As said before, it is easy thing to change. Just change the wiring and you have down on the left and up on the right.
That is the way I planned to do it as well until I drove a bit more with the paddles... now I understand the logic behind it as I found it very useful when driving with one hand. |

Thanks Mk335i for the thread on how to do the rewire, I will have a look and see if it is something I can do myself. |

The stock paddle shifter makes perfect sense. Go ride a motorcycle, then think about it again. I don't see how having the left downshift and right upshift or vice versa make any sense at all.

So are you suggesting all Formula One cars and their drivers don't make sense (along with all the Ferrari & Lambo on the street) ?? |
