I hope they have lots of trunk space when the top is folded.

No kidding. I feel lucky when I can get my 1992 E36 sunroof to operate correctly. That E93 mechanism looks like an accident in progress....

looks complicated. but if BMW makes it, there must be some efficiency in that mess of a convertible

I wonder if this differs much from the Merc's SLK mechanism.

Is it me or is that a 5-piece system? Two pieces for the roof, two rear sides, and the back window.

I have heard that the company that makes the top for the Volvo C70 will produce this top for BMW. I have also heard that the C70s leaks a good bit. How creditable this info is I do not know.

Edscha makes the BMW roof system - they have a lot of experience with cabrios and are amongst the first suppliers to come up with a hard top system.

I thought that Karman made the Volvo system ? (But I could be wrong).

Certainly the 3 piece system I see in the pics has similarities with the Volvo one so it could be the same company...

Not true.

OASys (Webasto's subsidiary) developed the roof for C70 (and VW Eos as well, and Euro Ford Focus CC, and Daihatsu Copen), while E93 roof will be - as usual for BMW cabrios / roadsters - from Edscha.

PR coming in a week or two, so expect leaked official pics soon.

This pic above is still a PS.

According to Greg who definitely knows his stuff this is a PS so ignore it.

Eitherway, one of three options is *still* possible:
1) No sunroof/moonroof
2) Fixed glass moonroof
3) Sunroof that would slide "back" over a rear piece (perhaps made of glass?)

It was speculated that (3) could happen, but technically anything could happen at this point as nothing has been confirmed. These two shots are the real deal from what I heard. You can clearly see glass in the front panels.

I have confirmed that BMW definitely "tested" cars with glass, but there is still no confirmation that they made the final cut. So for the time being its considered a "rumor".

i wouldn't be too worried about reliability as long as there is a 4 year warranty on it. Generally, if there is a problem, it will show up within the first 4 years. It appears that these leaked photos means that BMW will be introducing the E-93 at the Paris Auto Show as many magazines have predicted. I'm still wondering what kind of material the top is made of, and will it blend in with the rest of the car, which will be vital for appearance sake. By the way, where did you find the picture of the roof opening?
