2009 owners - check your trunk
According to a thread on M3post (single post, full thread), the mechanical keyhole has been deleted on BMW models built after March 2009. This is the key slot where you could use your integrated metal key to open the trunk even if power fails. Apparently, BMW feels we don't need this anymore.
So it looks like at least two cost-cutting measures for March 09 and later builds -- no alarm pre-wiring, no mechanical keyhole in the trunk. Anyone with a non-M3 E9x built after March 09 that can confirm they're missing the trunk keyhole?

Don't those post-3/09 have the ashtray/cover/socket replaced by a plastic box? Seems as if the LCI really means low-cost iteration. I wonder where else they saved money.

Wow! thats a bummer. What are you supposed to do if your power locks fail and you need to put gas in your car? There is a little green tab in the trunk that will pop the gas door open in case of electronic failure. I wonder what they had done in place of this....

Or if I lose all power and sunroof is open and rains coming, I want that friggin "wrench" that is just the right shape to fit and manually crank the roof closed. My CA said they had none in the US and are having it shipped from Germany! |

I have a March 09 build with no trunk keyhole. Can't say as a I miss it.
Other things I am aware of that no longer come with the 3-series cars, or at least the E90: 1) Tool thingy to manually open sunroof 2) Mini-flashlight from the glove box 3) First-aid kit for trunk area 4) Working power-outlet in the passenger footwell area 5) Working power-outlets in the rear of the center console I'm sure there are others I have missed. I realize BMW needs to stay profitable and would be looking for ways to cut costs. But some of these omissions seem ridiculous on a $50K car.

My battery died and I couldn't get the hooker out of my trunk. Now I have a dead hooker in there. Is this a matter I take up with the dealer or BMWNA?

They must assume that it is not a problem since all 2009 have folding seats (at least in Canada), if I am not mistaken. So the manual latch can reached from inside. |

^in the US folding rear seats is an option.
Besides, there are battery contacts under the hood. So one should be able to jump start his/her car without opening the trunk. However, I don't know what one would do in the case that the trunk wont open to open the gas release string.
