steering wheel covering/paint/something peeling

Hi,

I have a 335xi, and the thin black rubber-like material on the steering wheel is starting to peel away from the sides.

It's hard to describe and I don't have a camera handy.... but if you're looking at the steering wheel, I'm not talking about the wheel itself where you grip it, nor am I talking about the middle of the wheel (horn). I'm talking about the large portion inbetween the middle, and the wheel, that is just black.

If you notice it, this area has a thin rubber-like coating on it. That rubber-like coating is starting to peel away, at the place where it meets the outer wheel.

Has anyone else had this happen, and if so, had any luck with BMW covering it? I'm still under warranty, but didn't know if this is the type of 'normal wear and tear' that they would resist addressing.

Very common. BMW has a TSB out on this; it's caused by certain suntan lotions and handcreams. Also happens to the door pulls. BMW has authorized dealers to replace the trim on customer complaint.

Yeah..I'm not a fan of the film BMW used on the steering wheel. It's also the same stuff that's on the interior door handles. I it with my 99' Jetta and the stuff just peels and peels.
