Question Any BMW Mechanics HERE?

I have some questions regarding the front windshield and how if the seals around the outside of the windshield matter for leaks, or is the windshield sealed to the vehicle and the top and side rubber seals are just an extra failsafe..

Thanks,

VEHICLE IS A 2006 325XI 4 DOOR

^^ ok thanks, since my top rubber piece is coming off and is all loose, the bottom black piece that is directly under the wiper blade arms is all wavy and not tight to the bottom of the glass. The sides seem tight though, but I wish I could find a reliable bmw tech to come to my house for some cash to fix all the little problems I have found that the dealer wont due..

I have the following:

1. Loose rear view mirror or rain sensor? I need to pop plastic off to see.
2. My selector knob is loose as hell when its in D or DS mode, up and down and side to side feels like there is 1/4" of play.
3. center console is very loose, doesnt seem to be bolted tight to floor?
4. Vents are not aligned under drivers dash
5. rear windshield lower seal is still loose, they just used butyl tape to try and hold it.
6. my fuel door is loose yet again, the painted flat metal piece moves around freely, when it is supposed to be tight to the plastic that is attached to the car.
These are the issues besides the original ones I already had my car in for and fixed.

and for a car with 50k miles that is a little over 3 years old and cost almost $38K new, these types of things seem unacceptable to me. MAYBE I am nuts? But if I wanted this kind of quality I would not of bought a BMW.

So now I need to spend more time researching all these things to see if they are even fixable.

Then to add insult I still need to drop about $500 to get paint corrected still.

Sorry for rant guys, just gets me mad

Find a reliable glass shop specializes in windshields. See if it is possible to reset the current windshield or you may have to replace. A new windshield costs about $250 for OEM.

What did the dealer say about the windshield? it certainly sounds like it was replaced along the way by a previous owner.

take it step by step.

^^ its the Original windshield, I ask them and it also has the BMW logo on the glass, plus there are a lot of little chips and scratches you get with this many miles on it.

I just ran out and looked and KNOCK ON WOOD, it appears they fixed my leaky front floor board problem. Since it is pouring out bad and so far my car is dry inside.

I was just curious on the windshield, since the top rubber seal is so loose and warped looking that it could leak, if it is just a cosmetic thing I can live with it. also the sides seem tight, so I was worried about the bottom hard black plastic piece as well, but maybe that is just a cover only and doesnt have anything to do with water getting into the car?? I will have to take a few pics, that would help I am sure.

P.S. Does anyone know if the shifter play is fixable?

thanks I am really trying to as i love the community and the car, its just that I been through so much stress over the past month, but I am hoping to get a break from the dealer for awhile. My lawyer guy wants to attempt to sue the dealership now though.

Oh, and can someone "please" let me know if there is a way to tighten the slop in the selector knob as described above??

looks like there are two bolts that hold the selector assembly inplace. you can try to have those tightened. other than that it looks like the whole thing might need to be swapped out

^^ thanks I saw that diagram earlier today, From what it FEELS like, its not the whole shifter assm that is loose but its what everyone else complains about. Since in reverse and park it is pretty tight, but in D or DS it is pretty loose, dealer already said they will not fix it.

Just like my steering wheel play is back, and they already swapped the column out and said its just normal and a bad design by bmw.

I am still going to look it over under the drivers dash, since the noise is coming from the column and not the rack n pinion. It sounds like something is loose or just sloppy inside the column. But after a new one was put in, I doubt it is bad, so it has to be the design of it.

well I worked on some of the minor issues I still have today and found out the following:

1. The fuel door was a little loose and it seems like you need to bend it a little until it fits snug/tight?

2. Could not figure out how to take apart the rear air vents in center console to see if I could tighten that section. But no luck, maybe it is made to be a little loose?

3. The auto 6 speed selector is still loose and I checked the 2 bolts, but they just hold the whole assm. down. So I guess its normal wear and tear to be sloppy side to side and back to front?

4. Re-Aligned the vents under the drivers dash, the 3 piece section was not fully connected to the big vent section.

5. Checked the rear view mirror to see if it was mounted correctly and it seems like it was, I think there is a little play on the sensor part to help absorb when the car goes over bumps and the like.

6. The biggest thing I wanted to do and did, was to inspect the steering column issue, and after tearing apart the whole drivers side under dash and column cover I traced the clicking noise to an internal area of the actual column before the area where it goes through the firewall. So there is no way to fix it, since they already replaced the whole column 2 weeks ago or so. Just a design flaw or the way they wanted it I guess??

Well just wanted to update, didnt take pics since I did not really find anything that could be fixed. I hope some peeps can add some tips for the center console area vents?

Does anyone know how the center console comes apart in the rear section? Meaning where the vents and ashtray is? It feels extremely loose and I dont want to break anything by prying on the wrong thing.

I looked on realoem and no luck for the one I have.
