Transmission noise when shifting
Hey guys I ran a search and found nothing. Im hearing a faint clicking noise whenever I change gears. I only hear it when changing in the lower gears. Nothing when changing to 4th 5th or 6th.
Car has 300 miles and the noise has been there since day 1. Should I be worried and have it looked at or is this normal? Its a standard transmission, thanks is advance for any help. |

Where is the clicking coming from? Clutch pedal? Shifter? Gearbox? Under the car? Wheels? Is it one click or a series of clicks? Do you often use your blinker when you shift? Okay, kidding on that last one, but you need to describe this issue better.

It's coming from the gearbox. I hear it when I engage the clutch and when I make the shift change. Maybe it's normal on this transmission but this never happened on my previous manual car which was an RX8.

If you think the noise is out of the ordinary, try asking a local dealership for a test drive on another similarly equipped car and see if it's present on that other car.
Oh wait. They don't HAVE manual cars at BMW lots anymore do they? |

Ok just came back from dinner and I noticed that it happens only when I engage the clutch. So let's say I'm in first and I press on the clutch to change to sencond, I hear it only when I press the clutch. I hear like 3 faint clicking noises. It's coming from the gear box. I'm going to call my local dealer and see if it normal.

If you're hearing what I believe you're hearing, I think it's normal, but you might want to try to drive another similar car to see if you notice a difference since you know the sound you're looking for. I find with my car if I disengage the clutch just right, it's smooth and silent, but I start to hear a soft pop or rattling noise if I don't do it just a certain way. Others I drove seemed the same. Do lower gears make the noise more than higher ones? Any change based on how much or little throttle you're giving it as you actually disengage the clutch? |
