Does comfort access door unlock work for passenger?
If I walk up to the driver's door side with my comfort access key and stand there doing nothing, and somebody walks up to my passenger door and touches the door handle, will it unlock?
in the iDrive I have it set to unlock all doors (driver/passenger) when pressing the Unlock button on my remote. Does this include comfort access? Sorry, the manual is not very straight forward on this. |

beemer is correct. Changing the locks for the remote will do the same for comfort access, at least in my 2008.

actually
when I'm at the driver's side and someone tries to open the passenger door it hasn't opened then again, it may have been because i wasn't close enough to the door? let me know if you figure it out lol |

To answer question #1:
If you have the key in your pocket and you are standing next to the driver's door and someone walks up to the passenger door they cannot unlock by grabbing the handle. Each door has an antenna in the handle and it only allows the handle closest to the key to activate the comfort access. Obviously, if you walk up to the passenger door with the key then you can activate CA from the passenger door. Mike |

it works on either side. if the passenger door is not unlocking and only the drivers side door is, that can be changed in the settings, either on the idrive screen or from the stalk.

Only the side of the car you are standing on will work. if you are standing beside the drivers door, the passenger door wont unlock the car.

Does the same logic apply to the trunk?

No I dont believe so. I have had a passenger unlock the door while I was near the back of the vehicle...

Doesn't work for me. If I'm on the driver side with the key fob, my friend on the passenger side can not unlock the doors when touching the handle on the passenger side.

I had the opposite experience. I went out of my way to try this by standing at the truck and having someone try one of the front doors; didn't unlock.

I dont doubt it. My CA is getting flakey. Half the time I go to unlock it, I can hear the solenoids start to engage (faint click sound) but then suddenly disengage. No unlock. Other times I open the door and the solenoids engage up and down like a machine gun. This is never a problem if I use the button on the FOB. Time to take it in..

The manual does not explain comfort access keyless entry very well.
In fact, it justs tells you how it works but doesn't go far enough to give you scenarios. So basically, if I my car is locked, I walk up to my driver's door, and my friend beats me to the car at the passenger door, if he attempts to open the door, it will not unlock right? I know that the trunk works in the same manner , walk up and touch the rear. the comfort access is also not 100% functional...sometimes you're trying to lock or unlock by touching, it doesn't really work until you walk away first or until you re-lock or re-unlock. it is only dead-on if you walk away first and come back. |

The CA works for me all the time. I find that grabbing the door handle entirely works the best. There's no need to touch the top of the door handle to unlock the door. When locking the door, I touch the top of the door handle until I hear the locks have engaged and/or see the flashing lights.

What if you are driving, and you pull up to pick up your friend, engine running and doors locked.
If your friend walks up and tries to pull on the door handle, will it open on the passenger side? For me, it didn't work. I needed to manually unlock the door for him. |

If I'm going out with my wife, I'll use the key fob to unlock the doors so she can open the passenger door without waiting for me to get inside the car and press the lock/unlock button. If I'm by myself, I'll just grab the door handle to unlock the door.
