Shinier is better and more Onyx. It is like Nighthawk Black Pearl that Acura did but without the blue flake.

Jet Black is BMW's softest paint. It will have swirls if you so much as fart on it.

jet black is classier, like SJ said.. it's REAL black. SMB is nice for maintenance but just doesn't look as clean.

I dont know I have BSM and its a pain in the ass to keep from getting scratched, its pretty bad. You get swirl marks and scratches if you use anything more than a soft touch when washing the car. However, I can tell you that when its clean and detailed, nothing beats the look of the BSM sparkling in the sun. Nothing.

IMO JB just looks too flat.

i got BSM because it is little bit easier to clean then JB. We own three black cars so i already know how JB will be.

i like JB more than BSM during the daytime...
however at night, i personally prefer BSM because how it looks under the street lights where as JB just looks...well plain.

BSM is exactly what it sounds like. it's a sparkly black that i think can look nice in its own right

jet black is a very nice color when clean. it fits the stereotypical black though. by that i mean the following as others have mentioned already

terrible to maintain
BMW jet black is one of the softest - even bad microfiber gives you swirls
"looks" dirty fast
a swirly jet black looks like spiderwebs on your car - not as reflective as you'd want

I think if i had to pick, i'd choose BSM because i do like the flakes in the paint

Agreed completely. Having had both (SBM X5) the JB is a much deeper and richer black. It's been our choice of color on our 750, X3, and 328. Learn how to maintain it though, or expect to be paying for a full detail yearly if you're running it through automatic car washes. JB will start to look faded with too much neglect.

As hard as jet black is to maintain, BSM still isn't exactly a walk in the park. Don't get the sapphire just because of the fact that it's ever-so-slightly easier to maintain. Look at both, in different light environments, and make your decision based on that. You're either going to baby it, or you won't.... Either way, you're the one that's going to be looking at it every day.

They should be fine. It is the brushes that do the harm.

Yeah and if you search, you can probably find the thread where the guy was going to sue the self-serve car wash owner for him (the vehicle owner) scratching the shit out of his own paint without rinsing the brush first (as was clearly posted on the wall)....

Automatic or not, there are a million ways to scratch or swirl your paint. With a black car, you just have to get used to the fact that you'll be detailing it pretty regularly.

I have JB 330xi. I have owned for about 10 months, I have only really washed it with a sponge about 12 times, but I wash it every 3-4 days. I typically do a full detail about every 4 months on my cars, and this really seems to help keep that glistening finish. When I wash with a sponge, prior to drying I use a product (forget brand) that you mist on before you dry the car, wet wax. As you dry the car you can really see the depth in the paint. This product really helps keep that really bright (if you will) Black shine.
Now getting back to the part that confused you earlier "sponge about 12 times, but I wash it every 4-5 days", If I use this system religiously, when I go to the car wash I really only have to spray the car off with high pressure soap, rinse, foam condition, spray wax, and spot free rinse, never touching the car with a sponge. This helps keep all the fine scratches out of the paint caused by sponges. Believe it or not my car stays really clean and very black, no clouding or water spots. However, this all stems from using really good wax and making sure you take all the proper steps before you wax when you detail it.
I get compliments from people I dont even know all the time, people that work for other companies inside my office bldg, or from people when just parking in at the grocery store.

Both are nice color choices. I personally like the metallic flakes in the paint of the sapphire. Both choices are a pain to keep clean. So if that is your major concern, I'd go with Titanium Silver.

So you're telling me that Silver is just as hard to keep clean as black? I said I'd "personally" go with Silver. I didn't say everyone should do it. I like the looks of silver and I know for a fact it doesn't show dust/dirt as easily as black.
