iPhone 3GS Does not work with E92 iDrive

Hi fellas

Some Technie updates relating to the new iPhone 3GS and iDrive.

I discovered on Friday that my new iPhone 3G S does not work with iDrive i.e. it does not allow me to play songs on the iPhone when connected in the centre console.

Bluetooth and phone capabilities are OK but I was hoping to have ONE (1) source of music instead of having the iPod and iPhone seperately in the car.

Called Stillwell and wil be dropping into the Service Dept tomorrow to check it out. Will keep you lot posted with a workaround or solution.

Seems a few other people are having similar issues as well:

Hey, I just got a 3gs about a week ago and the music works fine through 09 iDrive. After connecting the usb cable to the Iphone, I just pressed the iPod button on the 3gs and it detected the songs on the phone.

Some of the Porsche guys are having issues with it as well. Something to do with the new iPhone (3GS) using bluetooth 2.1 as against 2.0 in the 2G and 3G models.

I'd have thought it was backwards compatible but being Apple who knows.

FYI my iPhone 3G does not charge in my 997.2 either. But I have an iPod Classic in the car for music which stays there all the time so it's not an issue.

After having a new HTC Magic for just on a week, I'm over it.

If it sync'ed with Outlook it would be great. I cannot come at Gmail & calendar anymore so I called my carrier & told them & they are swapping it over for a new iPhone. I will have it delivered this week.

I feel better now..

Nick, how did you go at Stillwell's??
Do they have iPod cradles in stock for the new iPhone??

Gents - Problem resolved with the iPhone.

Managed to play music and receive calls.
Problem really sat between the seat and the steering wheel.

I needed to select NO when prompted to switch to Flight Mode on the iPhone.

Cannot confirm if the iPhone will charge while docked as the M3 went back into the dealership - tint guys forgot to repair one of the reported defects!!

Still driving the tank today.

Flight Mode!! I suppose depending on traffic conditions you are low level flying some of the time LOL!

After seeing the report on the Turbo V8 'tank' on Top Gear this week I'm considering buying one..
