Ive searched all over the place and cant find a concrete answer.
would heat wrapping the turbo's, dp's, intercooler, and intake piping actually work?

I see heat soak discussed in almost every thread..
please discuss....

Definitely don't wrap the intercooler. It needs to exposed to the ambient air to effectively transfer the heat built up from compression. You may want to wrap the cool side tubing of the intercooler output to isolate it from engine heat.

I don' know that wrapping anything would make a big difference. you would be controling the air temp around the engine a little but I think it has a bigger effect in carburated cars where the air intake is more direct

I didnt say intercooler, I said intercooler piping...

it might be alot of work to wrap a couple inches of tubing here and there to not really have any affect

heat wrapping the charge pipes and turbo is a smart move

it will be pain in the ass and i'm sure BMW didnt want to deal with it and the maintenance it would require.

I'm pulling the charge pipes, turbo, wastegate, etc out of my M3 soon and will be heat wrapping them including the intake pipe which runs pretty close to the exhaust manifold.

keeps everything cooler and should help speed exhaust gases......win win.

i don't think that you wanna wrap them to keep all that heat in. You'll fry them or atleast the oil that cools them

You probably want the turbos exposed so they can cool off, and hence keep your IATs lower.

Just wrap everything else that needs to stay cool, so they don't capture heat that the turbo/engine radiate.

Remember, heat goes from hot->cold.

I just popped the hood and noticed the intake piping runs right alont the engine and parts of it are exposed to the coolant piping. i wonder if wrapping these up would show any reduction in IAT's ...

i"m sure it will but that's not the question you should ask. Will the small reduction in heat show noticable gains=is it really worth it?

I wrapped my IC pipes near the turbos and up to the TB. Even tho my DP's are coated, i will still be wrapping them.
