335i purchased w/ overdue service

I recently purchased a 2007 bmw 335i sedan with 27xxx miles on it. I recieved the car and didnt relize it till I had put another 500 miles on it. Started the car up one morning and noticed that it stated "Service overdue". I read up on the owners manual/forums and they all stated that generally the service indicator will shoot you a "-(x amount of miles)". I however have a date (03/09) roughly 3 months overdue??? I live 300 miles from the closest dealership and I am just curious if there is anyway i can find out how many miles overdue I am. My worry is that on the way down to the dealership (the 300 mile trip) I could A: do damage to the car beings that its overdue B: the thing breaks down on me. OR worst case scenario I have to pay for the service when I get there due to the laziness of the old owner....even more horrifying to think about... Could my warenty be void because of his lazy ass???

Maybe I'am over reacting but I just want to make sure w/ a car of this caliber.

No at 27K miles you start to get the yellow SERVICE warning but the car is not due for service till 30k miles. The yellow warning comes on then goes away and display the actual miles I have before service is due. My 07 328i has 27100 miles as of today and I'm getting that light too but I'm not taking it into service till I'm around 30k miles. I change my own oil every 5k miles so I might as well wait till I'm as close to 30k as possible, in order to keep an almost even 5k miles oil change ratio. What exactly do they do at the 30k check up, besides an oil change; that I don't know.

Then what is the deal with the date being displayed? Also: The bottom sliver of the I-drive screen states "Service overdue!" prior to every start up for a split moment.

Wait I miss read your original post. In your case you are ovderdue but if this was for the 15k mile check up then the system is way off, since that should have happened sometime last year. Depending on the guys driving habbits the first check up (15k) would have happened sometime in the summer of 08. Worst case secenario you should be about 8 months overdue at this point, not 3. Either way call the dealer and bring the car in ASAP. I know they can tell you when the car was serviced by checking your FOB but they MIGHT be also able to tell you that when they run your vin. If I was in your shoes, I'd take it to a BMW dealer. Lucky for me I live in Jersey and I got 3 dealers with like a 15 mile radius of me.

....Wow. FML. So the guy could perhaps failed to service the car at 15000 miles? What kind of damage could be had with almost 13000 miles over??? If this is the case wouldnt it state (-13000 miles) on start up???

should I even drive the car???

Is the car CPO? If so, they should have done an entire service before selling it. It's likely someone just forgot to reset the computer. The dealer should have all service records, and should be able to provide them to you on request.

The only REAL service that could possibly be overdue would be an oil change. Very unlikely since BMWNA receives uploaded info on these cars while still under warranty ............. thus, they will contact the owner via BMW Assist to schedule a service.

Fargo ........ my license was suspended longer than it was valid during my college days @ NDSU.

Hahaha. I'am looking forward to it. Ill be a freshmen there next year....

About the service: I looked into my I-drive interface a little bit more and dug up the info on engine status, oil life, break pads, Ect. Everything was 5000+ miles out put aside the oil (Currently at 700 miles)...But that makes me wonder... Why would my car display that date.... 03/2009 as an overdue service date. Arent BMW services done strictly on driving behaviors and millage???

Also..> The car is not a CPO car.
