This has been discussed already but you also get leather as standard and bluetooth but without the shark fin apparently. It works out better extras with the SE since it goes from the standard 17" to Type 189s (extra £805 normally) whilst the M-Sport just goes from 18" to 19" (£465 extra normally)

Looking on the internet, the discounts for the Highline appear to be about £2k less than discounts for the standard car so the benefit to you is moot unless you are useless at negotiating a deal.

I've found no explanation for the difference in bhp (applies to all engines) and also, after an initial web site screw up, the Highlines are supposed to have a £705 higher list price than the non highline counterparts but the web site prices have again altered making the Highline £5 less than standard but I notice that the list price of the standard cars has also dropped by a small margin (320d SE E92 was £28,560, now £28,430 approx.)

Go figure

Can't BMW chaning the hp on the 320D engine as the HL is cosmetics nothing more, plus 174hp is 177PS, so maybe its a conversion thing!

It is a quirk of the web site having been through this in detail with Park Lane. No difference in the engines; they are not chipping the Highlines differently (ps vs bhp vs kw conversions etc) it is purely the extras. I think some of the core website info is driven by BMW AG in Germany but could be wrong...

The display on the configurator looks like it did when the web site also wouldn't let you spec the Pro Nav on the Highline (which you always could) and the prices were wrong so not sure what is happening there again.

Bluetooth prep (option 644) doesn't include the shark fin regardless of model - the shark fin comes with the Nav system, either model, plus Bluetooth with telematics (option 633). If you fiddle around on the configurator and look at the rear view you will see the shark fin come and go dependent upon what you spec

The Highline enabled me to negotiate a better deal ending up with 225 wheels and a couple of other goodies for less than originally agreed which was fine by me - and I get it next week 3 weeks ahead of schedule

You get the shark fin if you opt for bluetooth but no nav.

OK, not what the configurator shows regardless of model. So what does the shark fin provide? A GPS aerial, a GSM aerial or both?

Rather than trust the configurator, if you look at 2nd hand E92s on the BMW website, without fail, they have a shark fin if they have bluetooth even though there is no sat nav and unless they've changed the specification since, the options list on the brochures states that a fin aerial is included with bluetooth.

So what is the basis of your statement that the Highline has "bluetooth but without the shark fin apparently"? Wasn't that based on the configurator back on 10 April when you asked what are BMW playing at?

Whatever the answer hardly a major issue and back to the OP there is no difference between the engines on the Highline and standard models. But don't trust the website on aerials, engine power and price and you should be fine

Maybe it's a recent change - I have Bluetooth but no nav and I do have the fin (March 2008 model). AFAIK the fin just contains a GSM aerial

Absolutely .. the fin is for the phone aerial, so you get one with the bluetooth kit. (at least you did in the good old days when I bought my car)

You're right. Previously, the configurator always showed a shark fin when you specified bluetooth. I checked the Highline which showed no fin. I have gone back and checked on the standard models and... no fin.
