E90 335d M-Sport, modded and detailed!!!
Hello all,
Was beginning to question whether or not I should keep the 335d recently, and considered a few other options. In the end I basically decided to modify the car a little bit and see if it made me feel any better about things! I went for the following mods to begin with... 19" M-Sport alloys with Bridgestone Potenza RFT's (no cracks yet lol) Evolve Remap (Review to follow) Carbon Fibre Splitters Carbon bonnet badge (to see if I like it, and will change the rest if I do) Debadged rear Alpine Upgrade kit I also thought that a full detail wouldnt hurt as the paint was a little swirled etc. I think the car looks fantastic, and I believe the carbon bonnet badge is very fetching so I think I will keep it, and add carbon badges on the wheels and rear also. I am also considering changing the grille, but I actually think the chrome sets off the carbon bonnet nicely - let me know what you think by all means. There are some other, fairly expensive mods coming too so next time that happens I will also let you know. Finally, with regards to the detail - it was done by a colleague of mine from work called Ant, he drives a really nice E36 M3 Replica and his mate Dave, thanks very much to both of them - Ant is well known in the BMW community and has a passion for all things that bear the propellor. I am sure if anyone wants a similar job in either Leeds/Wakey etc then they would be happy to oblige - PM me and I will be happy to put you in touch. And now on to the pics - enjoy!! Oh, did I mention Ant is a pretty keen photographer as well? Matt |

With regards to lowering, I might consider a full suspension upgrade, but i'm not just going to look at springs or anything like that. If your concerned by the pics on the drive - the car had just come off jacks so was looking high, check the pics which are by the stately home and you will see the true ride height which in my opinion isnt bad! Cheers for all the comments guys. Matt |

That looks fantastic Matt. A rear oem carbon fibre spoiler from the performance catalogue would set it off very well and perhaps the rear diffuser, although it gets dirty very quickly and is a lot for what it is.
How did you find the paint if you machined it? and what wax did you use. Front splitters look good, just keep away from kerbs in car parks!!!!!! did they take a lot to fix on? or was it just the length of time to cure the glue. Looking forward to hearing how you like the Evolve. Judging by the error messages that came up in your other post, it seems very similar to the bluefin? Wheels look good too. No xenon's? i don't either and don't miss them. Keep up the good work. |

Stunning - superb detailing, fantastic pictures and excellent subtle modifications. Evolutionary changes certainly a most sensible choice.
I'll be looking for your review on the remap also after following this thread. I would be interested to know where you bought your parts from (if allowed to say on forum) and how difficult there were to fit / how difficult it would be to fit originals (when times comes to chop in / with dealer etc) The condition of the leather looks exquisite - I wish more people took pride in the way they present their cars as you obviously do. When I originally went to collect my 335d, there was a very noticeable worn patch on the drivers side bolster which had been very poorly touched up (my five year old daughter could have done a better job).... ultimately, after a near stroke dealing with the brute-ish stealer, a new seat was installed. Love the alloys - presumably BMW original, also very interested to hear practicalities over where you bought them from, a stealer... or used off Ebay etc? How do the alloys affect the ride? More tramlining / harsher ride (never a bad thing in my opinion).... which suspension upgrades are you considering? Eibach / Bilstein / adjustable etc? Ever considered taking the car to The Ring? I'm thinking about a trip in mine soon.... before changing tyres! |

Hello guys,
Thanks again for all the kind words, I dont mind admitting im an attention whore - but then again we all drive BMW's, thats what this forum is for hehe!!! I really do not appreciate shitty leather mate, so I can totally understand your comment to that effect - I am a big fat get as well, yet I dont mangle bolsters because all you have to do is excercise a bit of care, and tlc!!! Questions then... Xenons - I can live with or without them, the person who bought my car from new chose a lot of what I consider weird options... I think for the price from new, I would always have them, but 2nd hand I would never go out of my way to find them!! CF splitters - fitting was easy, they are perfect fitment so all I did was used the BMW supplied cleaning agent, then sanded the paint down on the original bumper (god that was awful) and then bonded them using plenty of the BMW glue stuff. Once in place, I noticed they were not quite holding themselves flush in the centre of the nose, so I taped them in place and left them covered in a protective sheet for 4 hours whilst the rest of the detail took place. To answers Spirocheters question on suppliers, I got them off another member, but I believe they can be purchased from BMW dealers! CF Spoiler - hehe Evolve remap review is now up here - http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...42#post5139742 The process is basically the same as Bluefin, scary, but its a clever little box and got me out of trouble which I had put myself in!!! Wheels are genuine BMW wheels, with Bridgestone Potenza run flats on - about 4000 miles of use when I got them, loads of tread left. When I took off my MV3's they were almost slick, so I have noticed a massive improvement in handling - direction is significantly more assured, ride is undoubtedly harder but not too bad, except over extreme potholes etc. They were also purchased from a forum member to the tune of well over a grand.... In terms of future mods to the suspension etc, I will be fitting an LSD and possibly an ARB kit before I change suspension components, I have learnt a lot from Tony (E92fan) and I dont believe its any great shame to follow largely in the tried and tested footsteps of someone who knows what they are doing. Critical to me is always keeping the car looking like its from the factory - but also so that people know something is different, and cant quite put their finger on it if that makese sense. I will be heading to the ring later this year I believe, if this forum is indeed doing a second trip following the one thats happening literally RIGHT NOW Matt |

The car looks fantastic! Paintwork is probably better than when supplied from new! Wheels really suit it and I love those SE splitters, makes the bumper look better than the sport one when fitted IMO. Enjoy your 'new' improved car |

Thanks mate, no doubt it looks the best it ever has - not sure if it looked this good new, but it didnt look this good the day I picked it up!! Lazy BMW!!!
The procedure, in Ants own words was - "Products and procedure on the car was - A relativity hard cutting poor boys cutting compound all over the car Also wet and dried with some 1500 grade and then machined them on the marks on the door etc Then polished using poor boys blue designed to give a deep wet and lasting shine Along with some poor boys pink on the wheels and then dressed the wheel walls" Matt |
