Breakin miles before tune
I have a 2009 335i with 1,000 miles and want to get a JB+ or SSTT. How many breakin miles should I wait before installing the piggyback?

Follow the BMW manual recommendations, i think its 1,200 miles. i would begin to push it hard after that until 2,000 miles, then throw the tune on.
p.s. JB+

A guy here locally put in Redline 5W-30 @ 500 miles along with the modded CDV from RR and a 5/32 ball-bearing for the exhaust vacuum line. Then went to the dyno a day or 2 later and put down 290 RWHP and 304 RWTQ on a Dynojet... 3 pulls, all about the same, even took the panel filter out and left the box open for the 3rd pull and 0 difference (stock).
Added SSTT @ 1200 miles and been loving it (except the crappy drop above 6k rpms.) Changed oil again (same, Redline 5W-30) @ around 5k miles. |

As far as break-in.. just don't let the RPM's EVER stay constant for the 1st 500 miles and try not to redline it. Very occasionally you can floor it but like I said just don't redline it. Worked great on this car plus my 350z, both dyno'ed very well compared to other cars and run/ran great.

I remember when I bought my 335i back in 12/06. The sales man and I went for a test drive with a bmw that had maybe 35 or 40 miles. Shit we drove it like we stole it. What brake in time. hahaha. Luckly I knew my salesman really well, he called me when my car was still on the truck. So I was there when she came off of the truck, only 3 miles on her when I left the lot. I waited till I hit long 1500 miles. I think the manual tells you 1000.

man...
I ran 1st 3000 like a granny 3000-6000 normally (changed oil every 2k). Then I felt safe to do whatever with it... Drift the corner out of my work parking lot? No problem :P -scheherazade |
