New Upgrades and a CANbus question...

Hi Everyone!

I finally got all the parts in the 335i and upgraded to the canbus firmware and the car feels Super fast! after a while I got use to it but since I got the usb wire through the firewall and turned valet mode on, it was only then when I realized how BIG of a difference there was between stock and Canbus! I have put in a GruppeM intake,Code3performanceFMIC, Catted AR design catted downpipes and Oil cooler, miestershaft High performance exhaust(it's a E93 so didn't want to go too loud) . At 3000 miles I changed the FMIC and it had oil dripping out! I have read about this topic in several posts but had no idea it was so bad at such a low mileage given the fact that the first 800 miles was the break in period. riss racing is out of stock for a few weeks, is there anyone else that makes a Catch Can for the 335i?

One thing that I can't get to work is that I can't get the map indicator to come on! I thought maybe it was the wires I double checked the canbus wires twice and they where in the right order from the begining delivered from vishnu.I uploaded the canbus firmware on the vishnu forum but still no luck! any comments on what else I can check?

Thanks in advance

if valet is working, grab the key fob, switch to map 2 and check to see if the service engine soon light flashes. Then switch back to map 1 and see if it flashes 1 time. If it does not, its not working.

u brought the procede with the canbus already? or u put the 2 wires in urself? check the 2 canbus wires see if it is loose at the harness on procede side. my fd has the loose wire when it wasnt working properly, redo the wire and it works fine.

the service engine soon light does not come on at all when I start or when I try to change the map with the remote. I just saw that shiv has uploaded a new firmware, will try replacing it with the one i have and see what happens. my car is a march 2008 production could this be the reason?

production date shouldnt matter. as i said, recheck the canbus wires in the harness on procede side.

the canbus wires where intalled already and in the right order too. I checked the the two videos on youtube several times. one for intalling the wires and the other for changing its order. and saw that the wires were installed correctly at both ends. I got it in march. maybe I'll try to replace them with the two wires I got from them not knowing that my unit was canbus ready!

thanks for the input.

the wires might be in the right slots, but it doesn't mean that they are seated fully into the slots...for me it was a PITA to get the wires into the procede connector side...THose clips I never was able to hear a clicking noise that the pins were locked into place...I had to rub a little WD40 on the tips to allow it to slide into the slot better...It worked for me.

If you go into the Procede reader software, what does it give you for a firmware version? What is the exact map name you are running?

As far as a catch can. Many people are running the Riss Racing catch can and their N54 catch can hose kit that is $29.00. Some people are considering upgrading the can to a McKinney can and still using the Riss hose kit. If the hose kit is in stock, you could order a McKinney can that has the right diameter hose inputs to work with the Riss hoses. The only thing you would need to figure out is how to mount the can.

There are a couple of recent threads on this:

What does the label say on your procede harness? Procede CANbus or Procede CANbus+? There is a big difference, and if you got it in march, I'm thinking it doesn't have a plus on the label.

Thanks everyone for your inputs

scott999, I installed the pro01v03beta108 firmware, which I am assuming is the canbus, and opened the new map V3.3 4-30 file both installed successfully.

TurboFan, About the label on the procede, Mine doesn't have any labels! on the ziplock bag it came in it said, V3 Rev2 Stg2.

the thing is that it had the canbus wires installed already so I don't know If I should remove them and install them again! I looked at the video on the vishnu forum and it instructed to replace the two red wires which had the green and the blue wire attached to them but they were already in the right order! as Dkvby suggested I looked at the other end but even that was correct(the plug going into the procede)

The wire harness says CANbusX on it. I have uploaded the latest canbus maps and firmware but have yet to figure out how to make the map indicator to work.

If your harness came with CANbus activate (and it looks like it did), you shouldn't have to do anything to get the map indicator (or the other canbus features) to work. Give us a call today and we can walk you through a few things. We'll be open in about 1.5 hrs. I wont be here today (or tomorrow) but Dustin can help you.

I updated my harness and it worked fine. But from removing and reinstalling my RevII to let friends put it in their cars the canbus cables at the RevII side seemed to come loose and i wasnt getting any canbus feedback. I released the lock on the connector for the RevII and pushed both cables in and relocked it and it worked just fine. Like shiv said, call them up.
