Annoying...

First significant ding on the new car... so sad and annoying. My guess would be road debris (piece of tire?), but I don't remember hitting anything (and I would think you would notice something like this).

My only other guess would be someone caught it with a wheel/tire in a parking lot since it is so long down on the bumper.

It certainly was not there after the autoX, and I think it happened sometime earlier this week. It is not easy to notice since it is on the passenger side.

It is front, passenger side. I haven't had a chance to hit it with the clay bar, but I am hoping most of it is scuffing that will come off, though there are certainly a few short, deep scratch at the corner.

If anyone has any recommendations for cleaning it up, I would love to hear it.

grrr...

My initial feeling by looking at the pic is that a nice polish/buff would do a lot for that.....but tough without seeing it in person. Where in MA are you?

Cambridge.

I think/hope that most of it is on top of the clearcoat. But there are certainly a few small scratches that dug through the paint. Hopefully nothing some touch up paint can't fix reasonably well.

I may be able to clay it this evening and get a better idea of the damage, but the black scuffs make it difficult to tell.

I use bug and tar remover on scuffs(from the massive amount of cones I take out). Then I would follow-up with blackjack mulligan, the resident detail expert.

Thanks for the offer. I managed to clay the area and it helped, but there is definitely something more than simple scuffing left. One or two deep scrapes, and then small abrasions with maybe some more of the black scuffy stuff embedded (that the clay could not remove).

Here are a few post-clay pictures. It certainly looks like a buffing/polishing could help it greatly. My hope would be that buffing would fix everything by that one deep scratch.

oh man that really sucks.
on the bright side, if you're anything like me today at the adss you have a matching set of marks from cone carnage on the other side of the bumper too.

I have a couple, but hopefully no more major scratches. I washed the car immediately after I got home... it was diiiirrrrrty. A little better now. I couldn't look too negligent when I do the EVO phase I tomorrow.

I'm in Littleton right down rt 2 from you. I have a Flex and Menz polishes. If you'd like to stop by we could see what can be done to minimize it as much as possible. Shoot me a PM if you're interested.

I have a pretty nasty mark behind my passenger front tire form a cone today. Think some of it went into the clear coat, I can feel a difference. Battle Wounds. That's how you have to look at it.

Thanks to Blackjack

BlackjackMulligan was kind enough to hit the scuff with his nice polisher, and the results were the best we could have hoped for.

Here are some after pictures of what it looks like. If you compare this to the original and post-claying pictures, it is pretty amazing.

Thanks again!

Yep, it looks great.

Of course, now that it was fixed, I go to the grocery store and get a damn door ding. Even worse, it hit protruding ridge low on the door and dented and caused a minor crease. you just can't win...

The Flex can work magic, but I think a ding may be slightly beyond its capability lol....sorry to hear about the ding!

It could probably remove the small scuff left behind, but the dent...

I will see about getting a picture of it in the couple of days. You can certainly feel the distortion, and can tell when light reflects off it that something isn't right. It may be hard to capture in a picture though.
