Rusty Caliper Paint Colour
Hi Guys
I'll be the proud owner of a 08 E92 330i Black with red seats in 2 weeks time. Its a mint car with the usual rusty hubs & calipers. So first thing i plan to do is the HUB diy in smooth hammerite silver. But when it comes to the caliper colour, I cant make my mind up. I dont want anything 'max power like' so im thinking either: 1. Black. 2. Silver 3. Gold/silver mix Has anyone got any pics of there wheels/car with this colour combo?

I hope you don't have rusty brake calipers as they're made out of aluminium!
Painted any colour looks naff and tacky IMO. (unless they are fully stripped and powder coated). Then subtle black is best. Once the rusty brake disc centre is painted up, the whole lot looks better. Just use a bit of alloy wheel cleaner on the calipers and a good hose off, they'll look a lot better.... |

Your dead right, the calipers are fine, its the pad retaining spring/clip thats got a coating of surface rust.
Like you say a good clean then maybe just treat the clip with good old hammerite.

Do you brush it on or strip down and spray?
I was thinking about doing the calipers but would brush it on I guess..

Found some pics of my old 330d M Sport.
Painted the hubs in silver, calipers in a mix of gold and silver (85% silver, 15% gold) and pad retainers in silver. All done in smoothrite. Hope that helps make up your mind! Matt |

Painted mine at the weekend and much better but I did the calipers in gold and I don't much like them so guess I'll be re-doing it when I find the time.
Ah well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pics are deceptive as just been on country roads and it's scruffy. Gives an idea of what not to do though

Did at first but not sure now. I like the idea of a silver/gold mix which looks more subtle. Any way - doesn't matter if they're skybluepink - still better than rust!
