TPMS

Hi, guys, I am new to this forum and a new BMW owner as well. Hope you can help me on a question I have for my car.

I am putting a new set of rims on my 2009 328xi, I am wondering if I don't put TMPS in the rims, what's gonna happen after I put the new wheels on? I assume the warning light is going to go on and remain on until I put one in, right? Is that a big deal if I let the warning light stay on like that?

Do you guys always equip your new rims with TMPS's? Please share your commends, I really appreciate.

you gonna have a warning light saying your tire pressure is low. and this light wont go away, unless you put TPMS back in

The indicator light will stay on. I'd say about three out of four customers purchase new sensors (we sell them for $49 each including valve stem), while about one of four just ignore the dash light.

On vehicles that have more expensive sensors (some makes like Infiniti can cost $100+each) that drops to about two of four buying sensors.

It could be a big deal if you loose pressure in a RFT and don't find out until it separates from the wheel or something.

I'd recommend using TPMS regardless if you are using run flats or conventional tires. They are a good form of insurance against driving on under inflated or leaking tires. I think the benefits of having TPMS really out weight the nominal cost of purchasing a second set of TPMS for your new wheels.

couldn't agree with you more. its just an added layer of comfort knowing that you will be warned when your tires drop pressure. it came in real handy when one of my valve stems became loose and was loosing pressure. I was able to take it in immediately we have the problem diagnosed. If i didn't have the TPMS i would have probably been driving around for some time with low pressure and most likely doing damage to my Nitto Invos or rim. so in effect the TPMS paid for themselves.

another question! i know this has been answered already in a different thread but i'm to lazy to search.

can you re-use the old tpms and put them in the new wheels?

are canadian spec cars now coming with TPMS? I thought they were still using sensorless FTM systems
