Just a fyi....they all rust if they've gotten wet, then haven't been driven for awhile. The rust will be gone after a few miles after using the brakes. Happens to me all the time, since I don't drive my car very often during winter...in fact they look rusty right now.

A lot have it, but if you have wheels with large gaps (like the 230's), it is rather unsightly

a bit naff for a 40 grand car, the bmw performance hubs look as if they are made from a different material and not likely to rust.

It's a big fall down for BMW in my view... Even worse when the dealer says "Not our problem!"

I can't figure out why the hub is bigger in diameter than the inside of the wheel where they meet. If they were the same size, you wouldn't even notice the rust.

This is not the first time someone made a comment about this "rust on hub" topic.

Is it really that big of a deal to have some rust on the hub? I mean, 99.9% of the people who see your car is not going to notice it. And it is not going to affect the function of the brake... so what's the big deal? Are you entering a car show or something?

I believe the issue is that if you had paid £10k for your car and it did rust you would say, "well it's a £10K car" however these are £30K+ cars from a so called prestigious car maker... not really good enough to be honest in my book!

You'd be surprised at how noticeable it really is with certain style wheels. With a luxury sport sedan one would expect the hubs to to start rusting before the end of the first winter at least. My car is six months old and the hubs are rusting furiously even with a regular washing and it irks me no end.

This has been done to death on various threads, but I am seriously fecked off with it. Hoping that a mate with jack and ramps is going to come over to mine before Northern Meet 2 to sort them out with wire brush and hammerite. If not we have a rusty hub meet My RX had the same problem, but Mazda sorted it under waranty without question.

lol... what a coincidence I had a rx-8 same issue and the dealer took care of it np, i havent approached bmw yet but here in Toronto, the dealerships are utterly useless I had to spec out the car to my own salesman he had no clue about the car.

Loads of threads on here on that subject.

Just painted mine and it's made a hell of a difference apart from the fact I really didn't like the thought that the wheels were seized on solid and eventually some blockhead would have to take a bloody big hammer to them.

Better me than him!

jpsum

Those of us who take pride in the appearance of our motors (my wife says it's OTT), find the appearance of rusty hubs very difficult to live with.

I don't care whether anyone else notices or not - I do and that's the whole point!

Was in an Audi dealership over the Easter weekend and I specifically went snooping around the cars sitting outside checking out the hubs..........guess what, many had rusty hubs. The Audi hubs don't look as big as the BMW equivalent nor did the surface area of the hubs I saw appear to be covered in as much rust. My E92 335d had rusty hubs But, even the brand new RS4 sitting in the showroom had a couple of rusty hubs.

No consolation but I thought I'd mention it.

This was the first thing i did to my car as the hubs looked rubbish, gave them a quick lick of paint. They could put anodised discs on the car to stop this, i had changed them on my scoob before, the up rated brembo discs were actually cheaper than the standard ones.

Anodised discs on the scoob.

Malcolm

Really like the anodised disks! Why the hell can't they put decent components on £30 - 40k cars?
