Easy Corner delete for M3!!!
basically what we are doing
is getting the wire that goes to the bulb and putting a relay in the middle so when the turn signals are getting 2.5v, when they are turned on with DRL, the bulb is disconnected (i.e relay off, bulb not lit) but when you use your turn signals, the 12v goes to the bulb (i.e relay on, bulb flashing orange) Ok here goes! Parts list (radio shack) 1) 2x item 275-248 (12VDC/125VAC 10A SPDT Mini Relay) http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062482 2) 2x item 276-1144 (3-Amp Barrel Diodes) http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062579 3) 1x Item 271-153 (2 pack of 1W 1K ohm Resistors) http://www.radioshack.com/product/in...ductId=2062296 4) 4x 5.6 ohm 25W resistors i got mine from ebay from this seller http://cgi.ebay.com/5-6-ohm-25W-Powe...3286.m20.l1116 first step is to extract the wire going to the turn signal from inside the headlight (white wire on both sides headlights) that goes to the red/yellow points in the diagram the wire you just extracted goes to the white point in diagram now follow this wiring guide the 2 resistors are wired in parallel (meaning just twist the 2 wires from one side of each, then do the same for the other side) 1 diode and 1 resistor are wired in series. with the diode, the striped line should be connected to the red point, then the 1K ohm resisor is connected to the black point. so it goes like this red point---[|diode]--[resistor]--black point that is to protect the cars circuitry from voltage that is released by the coil when it de-energizes (don't ask me what that means, i am just saying what i read ) the yellow and red points are connected because in this case, we are using the power coming from the car to both power on the relay, and to give power to the bulb in the case of having your lights on there is 2.5V coming to the red and yellow points that's not enough to energize the relay so the 2.5v goes to the blue point which is sent to the 2 5.6 ohm 25w resistors (so the car senses the correct resistance and no bulb warning) now when you use the turn signal the red/yellow get 14V, that energizes the relay and the 12v goes to the white point which leads to the bulb as for the orange LED it gets it power from a seperate wire (black with blue stripe on the passenger side, and black with green line on driver side) now those colours are from the headlight plug that goes into the headlight inside the headlight the LED has a black wire, and the turn signal has a white wire for both sides) the ghetto way to get rid of the LED is to cut that black wire from inside the headlight= no LED what i am going to do is to connect the LED with the turn signal so it only flashes with the turn signal |

now you can put the relay with resistors inside the headlight
but be careful that the resistors don't touch against any of the wiring as they get hot and may melt the wires Plan B is to do all this wiring at the 2 boxes at the bottom of the windshield like in this pic, at the top 2 corners of the pic that's where the wires from each headlight go so it would be much cleaner to do it there i will take pics when i get a chance to do this sometime this weekend |

do you think you can take more pictures and do it step by step if you decide to do Plan B install ? I already have some stuff in my headlights so, Plan B would be perfect for me ...
Thanks. |

this is the area i want to work with http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...light=red+wire just to the left of the thick red wire at the bottom is what i think, the headlight harness as i see the black wire with blue stripe time to whip out the mutli meter |

If you can confine the work in this space, it would make the job much easier.

I'm sure I can
Because when I traced the headlight wiring loom The left side led to the left box And the right to the right box |

not really
i ended up cutting the 2 wires going to headlight 1 for the LED and one for the bulb and attaching the wire that comes from the car to a relay so when they are getting 2.5v they relay doesnt turn on and the bulbs are off when i use my turn signal they get 12v and the relay energises and both bulbs turn on i also added a resistor that is only activated when the relay is off so the car always sees the correct resistant either from the resistor when the relay is off or from the bulb when the relay is on it was more complicated that i thought but i did end up with a corner delete |

Never noticed anything other than the 'angel eyes' lighting up with the DRLs in the front (and tails on the rear, of course, but don't understand why) on my '08. Even if the orange ones are lighted, they're not conspicuous enough to warrant messing with factory wiring, but each of us is anal in a different way .

I did this years ago, the best thing to do is, cut the LED wire, then cut and run the wire that goes to the running/signal light for the headlight and run it to a resistor to take the load (25watt load.) After that you tap into the fender side signal wire and run the wire back to the headlights running/signal light wire. No errors, and will signal correctly.
Here is my old thread, works for all E92/E93s, and all E90/E92/E93 M3s... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=64702 |
