Simota Carbon Intake 335i

Have just taken delivery of some Simota Carbon Intakes for the 335i.

Will be testing it shortly and will provide dyno plots and videos on this thread.

RRP is still to be decided but I would imagine it would be around £749 inc VAT. We will of course provide a special forum rate for anyone wanting to buy one.

Imran,

what real gains does the gruppeM kit provide (that you sell) and do you expect this to be any different?

Under what conditions will you be testing this against the stock intake?

Cheers
Anthony

Only way I'd spend that much money something like that is if i had a clear plastic bonnet.... but I somehow don't think that would work that well.

Great looking though!

Haven't tested a GruppeM back to back with OEM box. A forum member running only our tune and a GruppeM and an E93 335i did a 1/4 13.3 which is the fastest time so far for an E93 335i.

We will test it on the dyno and try and get some testing done with the P-Box on the road.

I would like to be proved wrong but I'm very sceptical of these 'bling' intakes, GruppeM included, when it's hard to see how they flow more air and generate an increase in air pressure inside the box compared to stock

Can you test such things as well?

careful now....not sure about our e92s...but on the Integra Forum, they'll burn alive for saying this about the Gruppe M....

Gruppe M on a standard car does increase the bhp and performance!!!....

I also share your opinion, most of these bling intakes, tend to suffer from heat soak...especially the open cone ones...but have to admit that the noise coming from those is mental!!!!

If it makes more power on the dyno or provides faster times with the P-Box there is no need for any other testing.

I have no idea if it is going to work until I have tested it.

If you look on M3Post there is a guy called PencilGeek who has tested the GruppeM on the E92 M3 with good results. We have also tested them on the Z4M and Z3M with good results.

Given we squeeze all our air through turbos and heat it up to god knows what anyway.. Heat soak is relatively unimportant for the intake...

Now the US guys have shown a good intercooler can have more of an impact that we originally suspected dropping IAT's by (I think) something like 50degrees F !

That's huge....

One of the reasons I think Tony's Car is so quick - guess what he runs stock Air inlet with a drop in filter BUT he has an Intercooler mod.

SJ

P.s. 13.3 - nice we all gotta have targets right ;-)

Exactly Serjames, that's why the open filters (like BMS) are producing much more gains than the closed units (like GruppeM). As you say, the turbos massively heat up the air anyway, so hot air to the turbos is not a big deal.

£750 for a few ponnies is is very poor value when comparing to an upgraded intercooler.

An intercooler is by far a superior modfication on these cars.

IF the intake works then its just another product customers wishing to improve their car even further have the choice of.

We can send to the states via UPS for £45. You don't have to pay UK VAT either so get 15% off. I have a couple of them in stock.
