I've avoided checking back on my own thread because it has made me sad to think about letting my car go! I am really delighted everytime I see this car and even more so when I get behind the wheel. It's really wonderful and I have enjoyed every second with it.

with the approximately $1050 you are paying for someone to take over your lease, you could pre-purchase an additional 6562.5 miles for your lease. just something to think about, as the deal you got on this car is excellent.

Getting more serious now. Finally got around to posting an ad on Swapalease. http://www.swapalease.com/VEHICLESEA...hicleID=504674

Are there better places? Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I would go ahead and list it on the Autotrader for your buyout amount less any incentive you're offering. The car will certainly get a lot more exposure that way.

The problem I've found with Swapalease is that you can't make direct contact with the lessee unless you pay for a membership. I found this really frustrating, there was one car on these I was interested in but I wasn't about to give this company $40 just to be able to get enough info to determine if the car was worth considering.

Also, listing on Craigslist is free and can't hurt. The car looks great, and I think the lease terms with the incentive are really compelling compared with a new '09.

As you've found out the biggest hurdle to moving it is probably that it's a bit of an oddball color, and a manual. It's a great car that looks like it's in great shape, but finding someone who wants that car and can qualify is going to take some time.

Prior early lease termination story

Thanks for the bump!

I had a MUCH different experience exiting a BMW lease early in 2001. I leased an E46 328i with a 36 month term. After 12 months, I was curious about getting out of the lease early and read the fine print on the back of the BMW Financial Services contract.

It said that if I terminated the lease early I'd be liable for all unpaid payments OR the difference in the lease payoff plus $350 disposition fee and Kelly Blue Book Wholesale value. I checked KBB.com and the wholesale value was a few dollars higher than the payoff. I called BMW Finance and they told me I could just drop the car off at the dealer and give them the keys with NO negative impact to my credit.

The next day I dropped the car off at Cutter Motors in Santa Barbara and handed the keys to Jon Shafer, the sales manager. Anyone here know him - the founder of Bimmerfest??. The lease was closed with a postive "paid status" to all credit bureaus! Jon asked that I not broadcast that it was that easy....!!

I guess BMW wised up since then. I looked at the back of my current contract and its not so simple to determine what wholesale is. The car is subject to appraisal, more fees to figure it out, etc.

Maybe I'll just hold on to it. Another year will fly by.
