You dont need one for the car control clinic and if you want you can rent one at the driving school. Although, sometimes they do run out of rentals.

any motor sports shop can sell you an approved helmet. The rentals at an event are nasty. You'll want a SNELL 2004 or later. I picked mine up two years ago for $90

Good idea to buy locally - there's nothing worse than buying a helmet that gives you a splitting headache within 10 minutes of putting it on because of some pressure point. If the event allows motorcycle helmets, those are available locally and quite cheap. Trying them on definitely helps a lot. If you notice any pressure while in the store (leave it on for a few minutes), try another. Just make sure they're SNELL rated, as mentioned above.

It's easier than it seems. You use the fitting charts. I was in between sizes so called them up, talked about the helmets I was interested in- they suggested one size over the other based on the brand- it fit perfectly. Another time it was too small, but just exchanged it. No big deal.

90$? I have been looking around and cant seem to find anything under $280. I'll only need to use the helmet a few times a year, so i'd hate to spend that much. Am I going to have to just suck it up and spend that much?
