installing H&R Sports
Hey guys, I've been asking and searching around for a while now and I'm getting a big mixed amount of answers to if I need to replace my oem struts or not. So yeah, my car is a 2008 e90 335i with the sport package and i'm looking to get the h&r sports. Also, is it necessary to do an alignment as well? From my knowledge, installation for springs is anywhere from 100 to 200 and I don't think it includes alignment.

normally, you SHOULD get aftermarket struts because OEM ones are not made for shorter springs; which means they can blow out easily. The alignment is more to correct camber because after lowering, you will probably get negative camber which decreases tire life and grip. I know my friend lowered his car and didnt get an alignment for about 1.5 years and his cords in the tires started to show... very bad. Also installing springs yourself should be pretty simple if you have a basic amount of tools.

Honestly, it depends on how long you plan on keeping the car. The OEM shocks are going to wear out quicker with the aftermarket springs on the car but if you don't plan on keeping it past 50-70k miles, you might be able to get away with just the springs. If you are going to keep the car for the long term, I would do it right the first time and replace both the springs and shocks. You will save on labor and completely upgrade the suspension as well.
I recommend an alignment with any suspension upgrade or modification. |
