What do you think about replica's ?

Hi,
I'm located in Costa Rica, I own a 2009 X6 3.0d and wanted to upgrade my 19" wheels to 20", since the import duties here are so high, importing any wheel will cost me an extra 50% of the price paid in any U.S. store.
I was thinking on getting a set of replicas (style 214) but I'm not sure how good is the quality, I don't want to drive thinking I'm driving on wheels that can brake anytime.....I do drive spirited and like hard cornering, also I have to know I'm driving a heavy car, so safety is issue #1 here.

I need an advice on buying or not buying replicas.
Thanks in advance
Bernie

Hi Bernie

You are asking the quality of replicas as if they are a brand. Every replica wheel manufacturer is different and has different quality. You cannot judge them as a whole. I would research who the manufacturer is before buying.

I know there are replica's made in Germany, Italy but also in China, there must be a good brand out there, if anyone knows a brand, please send me the name or a link to it.
Thanks a lot !

^^^ Fortunately forums are a good way to do research before making a purchase.

One can debate endlessly over which country makes better wheels (Japan, China, Germany, Czech republic, Philippines, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia, Korea, a short list of the production country, of the wheels you see on this forum). Or better yet, who carries the 'better' wheel.

But at the end of the day its about what you are confident with, and who you trust to ensure your purchase is worry-free.

Thanks for your comments, another way is to find a used OEM set of wheels in good condition, anyhow I have no rush, my car is just 7months old....
