Insurance problems at the track
So what does everyone do for insurance when you go to a track event?
I want to go to a "driving school" event with BMW car club of america, it is a non timed event with class time training... So I called state farm just to make sure i would be covered and what did they have to say... NO my car is not covered on any non public road. So what gives what does everyone else do? |

Drive carefully.
Seriously, I drive a E36M3 track car that I dropped collision/comp on years ago. The bottom line is that if you can't afford to write it off, you probably shouldn't be taking it out on the track. I've taken my 135 out one time, but I did so with the expectation that I would be responsible for any damages. Luckily, there were none other than a worn out left front tire. There are some insurance plans for DE event coverage, but they are on a "per event" basis which gets pretty expensive if you run many events. http://www.motorsportreg.com/index.c.../hpdeinsurance |

My story was very similar to yours, I'm receiving driving instructions from BMW club on non public road. Its not racing or a timed/competitive event. Geico does not cover it. Allstate claims they do, I'm going to verify with a manager on Tuesday before I purchase anything. I am going to keep calling around until I find an insurance company that will cover this.

If it's a BMW HPDS there was an insurance company last year that would provide coverage during an event, but only for BMWCCA and other select schools. I don't recall the name or if they're still in business, your local chapter may be able to assist. Contact other clubs for questsion regarding carriers for their events.
But if you can't afford to write it off I wouldn't run it on the track and rely on traditional passenger vehicle insurance. I've seen a number of "offs" that totalled the vehicle. You'd be amazed at what a brake failure would do to a car at the end of a front straight of somewhere like Gingerman. |

Thanks everyone
I looked into coverage from where the windy city club offers and it is over $340 for the weekend so I'm not sure that I will be able to do it. Not going to chance my new '09 1er |

I used these folks last year -- very easy to get covered event by event. More expensive approach then the whole season approach. Look up the event you are planning to attend and apply on line. You need the purchase/replacement cost of your car then add the value of your track mods. Your premium is based on your computed value.
